Arthur looked equally surprised by the answer. A moment later, a pleased smile touched his lips. "It's rare for your brother to show concern for you. You should make an effort to get closer to him from now on. If you ever have questions about business, don't hesitate to ask for his advice."

Pierce nodded.

After resting for a few more minutes, Arthur grabbed the freshly printed divorce agreement and walked downstairs.

Riley had zero energy to argue with him over technicalities. She just said, "I'm taking Mr. Carter's car." She turned to walk away.

Pierce caught her arm. "We've always arrived at and left the estate together. If we take separate cars tonight, what is Mr. Carter going to think? Don't forget what you promised Grandpa—until the papers are final, no one can know we are divorcing."

"Mr. Carter knows we've been fighting the last few days. He won't overthink it." Riley pulled her arm free and headed straight for Mr. Carter's car.
