Serena looked down at her food, utterly disappointed. The last gift she had given Sebastian was a tie, and she had wanted to see if it looked good on him. She hadn't expected him to skip dinner.
After the meal, Eleanor asked if anyone wanted to go for a walk.
Since she asked, everyone naturally agreed to accompany her.
The estate was brightly lit at night. The group strolled leisurely, chatting with Eleanor. After walking for about half an hour, Eleanor felt tired, so they stopped to rest in a pavilion. A moment later, golf carts arrived to take them back to their respective quarters.
Upon returning to their room, Riley went to freshen up first. After washing up, she went to the sofa to arrange a pillow and a blanket.
Pierce asked, "Are you sleeping on the sofa tonight?"
"What else would I do?"
"The sofa is uncomfortable. You'll wake up aching all over tomorrow. Sleep in the bed. It's big enough for two people with plenty of room to spare. I won't touch you."
"No thanks. The sofa is perfectly fine." Riley finished laying out the blanket and prepared to lie down.
Pierce grabbed her wrist.
Riley frowned at him. "What are you doing?"
Pierce looked at the wariness and resistance in her eyes and sighed. "You take the bed. I'll sleep on the sofa."
"That's not necessary..."
"Be good. You just had Alora. Your body hasn't fully recovered yet. How could I let you sleep on the couch?"
Seeing the stubbornness in Pierce's eyes, Riley didn't argue further. "Fine. I'll take the bed."
Pierce finally let go of her and went to wash up. When he came out, Riley was already in bed. He walked over, leaned down, and just as his fingers brushed the edge of the blanket...
