The Coldest Man in the Room Melted Only for Me novel Chapter 61

"He already gave her that massive gift when she was born," Beatrice muttered, shaking her head. "Why on earth would he give her something so incredibly expensive again so soon?"

Riley offered her a polite smile. "You seem to forget that Sebastian named Alora himself. She is obviously very special to him. But if you don't believe me, you're more than welcome to call him and ask why he sent another gift."

Beatrice choked on her words.

But her greedy mind immediately started racing.

Rumor had it that Sebastian despised women. At thirty years old, he was completely unattached, aggressively single, and had zero heirs.

He hated his biological family, but Alora was his goddaughter. If he favored her, there was a massive chance she could end up inheriting a chunk of his empire.

The St. John family's wealth was astronomical. The sheer possibility had Beatrice trembling with excitement, and suddenly, Riley didn't look quite so repulsive to her. "Sebastian's grandmother is having her eightieth birthday gala soon. You will bring Alora and travel to Statenbury with us."

"Alright." Riley was disgusted by Beatrice's rapid change in tune, but she wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to solidify her daughter's standing with the most powerful man they knew.

She had been texting Sebastian photos of Alora every few days, and he replied every single time.

Even though his responses were usually just a simple 'Mm,' it proved he was actively keeping tabs on her.

And that was more than enough.

"I've also ordered some custom clothing for Alora," Beatrice announced smoothly. "I'll have it delivered to the house when it's ready."

Alora was a month and a half old, and Beatrice hadn't bought her a single thing. Now that Sebastian's favor was involved, she was suddenly playing the doting grandmother. It was a pathetic lie.

She had just made it up on the spot.

But Riley didn't bother exposing her. "Thank you."

As long as they treated her daughter well, Riley didn't care if their affection was genuine or entirely fabricated for profit.

Noticing the bottle was empty, she stood up, desperate to escape her mother-in-law's toxic presence. "I'm going to check on Pierce."

Beatrice assumed Riley was finally taking her advice to act like a submissive wife and crawl back to her husband. "Go. If only you had learned to behave like this sooner."
