"A mild eardrum rupture."
"How did she get hurt?"
"Don't ask."
"Then why did she call off the engagement?"
Cassidy glared at him. "None of your business! And don't you dare go asking her about it, you hear me?"
"Alright, alright," Felix said, raising both hands in surrender. With a helpless expression, he added, "I finished editing the video. Hurry up and get your operations team to review it."
"Review what? Go cook dinner! Nora and I are staying here to eat tonight!"
After dinner, Cassidy and Nora headed back to their respective homes.
Felix went off to battle it out with the content review team.
Left alone in her apartment, Jasmine sat on the sofa. Looking around at the cozy decor, her heart suddenly grew cold.
It was too quiet.
The deafening silence that followed the lively atmosphere was suffocating.
The events that had unfolded at the hospital earlier that day rushed back into her mind like a tidal wave.
An indescribable pain spread through her chest.
She practically sprinted into the bathroom.
The warm water heated her body, but it couldn't warm her freezing heart.
Changing into brand-new pajamas, she lay on a foreign bed, wrapped in the sheets and blankets her friends had carefully picked out for her. She breathed in the fresh, comforting scent left by the dryer...
But Jasmine only felt an overwhelming sense of sorrow.
What was she going to do now?
Was she going to rely on her friends' charity forever?
She felt so useless.
The vast unknown ahead felt like a heavy shackle.
Jasmine lay with her eyes wide open, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Time ticked away, second by second, but she wasn't the least bit sleepy.
Endless loneliness and fear tightly wrapped around her...
Suddenly.
"Hahahahahahahahaha..."
A burst of manic laughter drifted in from the balcony.
In his excitement, his voice involuntarily went up a few decibels.
Jasmine frantically tapped her lips with her finger. "Shh—shh—shh—"
"Right, right, right," Felix whispered again. "Quick, come in. Let me show you the analytics."
"Let's put that on hold for a second. Do you have a pen and paper?" Jasmine held up a bucket of chocolate candies she had bought at the supermarket. "I bought these today. Let's write a few apology notes. We'll say we had something to celebrate and accidentally disturbed everyone, then we'll tape the candies and the notes inside the elevators. It's an apology, but also a way to share the good news."
"We live in the same building now. Even if we don't become best friends with the neighbors, we'll be filming here long-term. We absolutely cannot leave a bad first impression."
"If someone decides to pursue this and reports us for a noise complaint in the middle of the night—even if it's just this once and not a huge deal—it's still a technical violation. If your account gets exposed over something like this, all your hard work will go down the drain."
"Don't you want to be a top influencer? A top influencer can't have a stain on their record."
"While no one knows exactly who was making the noise, we need to apologize immediately. When people see the candy and the note in the elevator, most of them will let it slide. Even if someone digs it up later, it'll show we took accountability."
"We can't leave this as a lingering risk."
"Also, we have to stick them up right now, so even the earliest risers will see them."
Jasmine explained everything with a serious, urgent tone.
Felix dropped his playful grin and stared at her intently for a few seconds.
"What's wrong?" Jasmine asked. "Do you not have a pen and paper either?"
Snapping out of his daze, Felix curled his lips into a smile. "I do. I'll go get them."
