The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 532

Petty's eyes were red. She frowned, still refusing to believe the divorce agreement belonged to her parents.

She pushed against Franco, stepping out of his embrace.

"I'll look into it myself in the future."

Franco instinctively took a step forward, but she stepped back, giving him a quiet look.

He had already done enough. The burden of the sins he carried by interfering and investigating the Lane family's affairs was already far too heavy.

Petty didn't say it outright; some things were better left unspoken.

Saying too much would only lead to more entanglement and pain.

She let out a long sigh and rubbed her face with both hands. If she had heard about her parents' divorce agreement in the past, her reaction would have been much worse.

She had been through so much over the past six months, and she was growing.

Once she managed to compose herself, she sat back down on the sofa, grabbed an open bottle from the table, and tipped it back, chugging the alcohol.

Franco watched her in silence, making no move to stop her. Those were the rules of the game.

She believed what he said.

"Now it's your turn to ask me," Petty said, setting the bottle down.

Her eyes were still red, and the tear tracks on her cheeks hadn't completely dried. Franco looked at her pale face, picked up a thin blanket from the sofa, and walked over to drape it gently over her shoulders.

Petty instinctively reached up to pull it off, but her fingers brushed against his warmth. Franco caught her fingertips. "Be good."

With that, he walked back around the sofa and took his seat across from her.

He picked up a bottle and popped the cap. It hit the table with a metallic scratch, spinning a few times before settling.

Once the clinking stopped, Franco finally asked, "Do you still want to be a war correspondent?"

The question caught Petty off guard, leaving her in a momentary daze.

Being a war correspondent had always been the dream tucked away in her heart ever since she majored in journalism. It was her true calling.
