Franco didn't take a single step toward the center of the island until the sound of the rotors completely faded away.
The island wasn't exceptionally large—he owned other islands meant for different purposes that dwarfed this one in size—but out of all of them, this was undeniably the most beautiful.
At its heart sat a mansion that easily rivaled the main house at Misty Vale. Lush flowers, greenery, and towering trees circled the estate, and right behind it sat The Shooting Range.
The Shooting Range was something Petty had wanted.
They had stayed here for a month that year, and she had playfully begged him to teach her how to shoot.
He hadn't verbally agreed, but that same night he ordered Jay to bring a professional crew to the island to measure and map out the grounds.
But then Petty remembered that he was the one who drove her parents to their deaths, and their relationship completely shattered. It wasn't until this spring that she finally fired a gun on this range, using the techniques he had taught her while disguised as Malcom.
Petty had no idea that this entire island belonged to her.
Jay didn't follow Franco, opting to watch from a distance as he stepped into the mansion.
There was a locked room on the first floor.
Franco used a key to open the door. The curtains were drawn flawlessly tight, preventing even a sliver of light from bleeding in.
He walked over to the window and pulled them open.
Sunlight instantly flooded the space, striking the assorted gemstones scattered around the room and refracting into a blinding, brilliant display.
In the center of the room sat a black, square island counter. Bolted to it was a professional suite of diamond-cutting and polishing machinery.
Several raw, jagged pieces of blue sapphire lay haphazardly on the counter—the scraps left over from when he had cut and polished the blue sapphire brooch for Petty.
Resting on the laser-cutting table was a vivid pink diamond, waiting to be polished.
It sat there silently, as if it had been forgotten by its master for years.
Franco stood in front of the workstation and brushed his fingertips against the pink diamond.
As the gem shifted, streaks of breathtaking light danced across his fingers.
Just like Petty's eyes. So beautiful it was impossible to look away.
