Chapter 547
Ellie’s POV
By the time the next morning rolled around, the whole world apparently knew what had happened on our lawn last night.
Dominic was already up when I awoke, sunlight spilling across his bare chest, sitting up against the headboard with his laptop open in front of him. When he noticed me stirring, he wordlessly tugged me against his side without looking up from the screen. I struggled to shift over to him with my belly and rested my head on his
chest.
“We’re famous,” he said.
I yawned, rubbing my bleary eyes. “I thought we already were. Given that you’re an Alpha and all.”
“Well. That was debatable before. But if that were the case, then we’re definitely extra famous now.” He turned the screen toward me so I could see what he was looking at.
A news anchor’s face filled the screen, holding a blue microphone. Underneath her was a headline that read ” ALPHA KING MONROE POISONS EVENT.” Beside her was a picture of Monroe.
According to the news segment, several victims had already made damning statements about last night. The incident had been reported to the inter-pack authorities by enough guests that no one could deny it anymore. Someone had also recorded our speech last night on shaky phone footage. The part where we held up the evidence was zoomed in, grainy but clear enough to be certain.
“At approximately eight o’clock this evening, the champagne served at this event was poisoned…”
I watched myself grab Dominic’s arm when the crowd started shouting Monroe’s name. I watched all of the guests turn on a man they had supported for years. I watched them chant Dominic’s name, my name, “Dominic for Alpha King, Ellie for Luna Queen,” fists flying in the air, faces full of righteous anger.
Further into the news segment, there was footage taken this morning, outside Monroe’s main office. A swarm of journalists was shouting questions that he didn’t answer. He held his briefcase up to cover his face and rushed to a waiting car at the curb, climbing in, and sped away without looking back.
Somehow, I got the sense that he wouldn’t be a problem anymore. Especially not when I saw Dominic’s recent approval ratings. They were up thirty percent after just yesterday, officially putting him in the lead for the Alpha King election.
It was like a dream come true, and that wasn’t even the end of it.
Last night’s Lycan announcement had made headlines, too. Historians, academics, and dignitaries from all over the continent were abuzz about our initiative. Other packs were already pledging their support for the program. Investors were expressing interest. Comments were rolling in by the second, talking about booking trips to Goldenveil to see the legendary ruins and learn more about the culture that had been lost to time.
Neither Dominic nor I could believe it. The support was incredible. I had expected some support, of course, but this much, this fast—maybe Monroe’s stunt had been a blessing in disguise. So many eyes were on us now that it was a little daunting, but wholly exciting at the same time.
After, we shut Dominic’s laptop and got ready for the day. There was much to do already. His Beta said that the

phone had basically been ringing off the hook all morning as pack leaders reached out with questions and offers for donations toward the campaign and the Lycan initiative, and Edmund had sent me six emails already about the new heritage museum. The world wouldn’t stop for a ring, it seemed.
Bastian was already in the kitchen when we came downstairs. He was hunched over in one of the chairs, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his eyes shut, a cup of coffee steaming in front of him.
“Feeling okay?” Dominic asked cheerfully, slapping my brother’s shoulder as he passed.
Bastian jumped, jerking his head up. His eyes were fully ringed with dark circles and he looked like he wanted to kill someone. But he was also smiling, just a little.
“So,” he said. “Last night-”
He froze.
His eyes went to the ring on my finger, then widened.
“Ellie,” he said slowly, “is that…’
“Oh.” I held up my hand, blushing. I hadn’t seen Bastian last night after I left the event. He had gone straight to his room after the guests left, which was fair, being poisoned and all. No one knew yet except for Dominic and me. “Dominic proposed. Again.”
