168 Tranquility
Earlier, Rhaziel had hurried to the room where Nikolai lay unconscious. Given that Ophelia had woken up, he reasoned that Nikolai would too. However, as he approached, he heard Pain, who was in the chamber with Nikolai, growl loudly.
He halted.
“Stay away. For now, at least.” Rhaziel overheard Nikolai mutter angrily. He was relieved that he had woken up, but without content, he kicked open the door and transformed his eyes into their thick black demon form.
Nikolai scowled deeply as he raised his dark crimson wolf–like eyes to Rhaziel. Wide awake at the side of his face was the snake tattoo that was meant to be at the side of his neck. “Go away.” With a growl, he cast his eyes down to Pain, who was sitting directly in front of him and giving him a
fierce look.
Putting aside his tremendously menacing aura, Rhaziel took a step forward. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Do you want me to repeat myself?” Nikolai bit out and rose up.
Rhaziel sighed profoundly. “Did you have a nightmare?”
Nikolai squinted his eyes at the abomination. “Do I have to tell you?”
“So you did have a nightmare.” Rhaziel crossed his arms over his chest and tsked. “You should calm yourself from doing anything you will regret.”
Nikolai rolled his eyes. “How long have I been out?”
“Two weeks.” Bluntly, Rhaziel answered.
“And Ophelia?” Nikolai asked, his eyes softening somewhat.

Rhaziel gave a loud sneer and rolled his eyes. “Nik, I adore how you find humor in this. But you should know that you have been unconscious for the past two weeks and that the throne is currently essentially vacant.”
Nikolai closed his eyes, pinching the middle of his brows. “You speak like I intended to pass out for two whole weeks, Ziel.”
Hopefully, Viktor was going to take care of things. It was because Ophelia had advised Nikolai that Viktor ought to be named Beta that he had placed
that burden on him.
“We will leave tonight.” Retching on the bed, Nikolai mumbled. He was used to having bad dreams and as a child he always had plenty, but they ultimately ran out. But this was something else entirely. It made him feel uptight, which he didn’t like. “I do not like that nightmare.”
Rhaziel’s eyebrow shot up. It was rare to see Nikolai disturbed about a nightmare. “What was it about?”
“Ophelia.. Dying in my arms. Even though I was dying alongside her, I still found it uncomfortable to be holding her as she passed away.” glumly, Nikolai responded. “There was this spear protruding out of our bodies.”
Hearing those remarks, Rhaziel tensed up. A vivid memory flashed across his mind, but he shook it off and turned to face Nikolai. “It was only a bad dream. If you wish it not to come true, you should protect her.”
Nikolai gazed up at him, his eyes flashed darkly, then he forced his tattoo to go back to sleep and return to its original spot at the side of his neck.
“You look like you have not slept for a year.” Glancing at Pain, who appeared more composed than he had previously, Nikolai said somberly. “You too Pain.”
Reluctantly, Rhaziel shook his head. He knew fully well that the lycan always had a difficult time accepting the fact that very few people genuinely cared about him.

“It seems the gods wanted to interfere in the wedding ritual, don’t you think?” Just then, Nikolai inquired. He sounded irritated.
Rhaziel gave a nod. “Nothing can be done about that on our end. Obtaining and destroying all three sacred stones is the only action we can take at this time.”
Nikolai looked back at the demon with a raised eyebrow. “That is your
plan?”
“Do you have another plan?” Rhaziel’s face becaîne glum.
Grunting loudly, Nikolai grinned and got to his feet. “Tranquility.”
Rhaziel furrowed his brow and sank his fingers into his hair, expressing a hint of annoyance. “Whatever is going through your mind, Nikolai, is not something I endorse. You never define tranquility as anything less than total destruction.”
“Do you believe obtaining those stones will be simple? We must not undervalue our prey. In reality, they are quite strong.” Without much thought, Nikolai squatted down and caressed the Tiger Phoenix’s silky fur.
Rhaziel shook his head with complete disdain. “Preys?”
“Preys.” Nikolai’s lips spread into a smile.
The demon sighed profoundly. “Please go back to being unconscious.”
Pride gleamed in Nikolai’s eyes. “Tick tock.” He breathed.
“Oh hell help me.” Rhaziel groaned, making his way out of the chamber.
But just as he held the handle, he heard Nikolai murmur, “It felt so real, Ziel. It made me… afraid.” grudgingly, he halted.
He closed his eyes and forced his mind to dwell on nothing at all. It was a few moments before he spoke, and his hold on the door handle tightened.

Nikolai kept patting the Tiger Phoenix, who appeared to be having a great time. He yawned, and Nikolai smiled a little. Even though he was feeling quite full, the nightmare kept coming back to him, making his heart race with fear.
“Nik.” Rhaziel called, using his lightest voice possible.
“Hmm?” Nikolai turned to face the demon still stationed at the entrance. A hint of curiosity lifted his brows. “Are you alright?”
“You are doing a great job keeping her safe at every turn. All you need to do is keep doing that.”
Those statements shocked Nikolai to his core. But he chewed them thoroughly and laughed softly. “You do not have to tell me.”
Rhaziel grinned proudly. “Of course. No, I don’t.” Without any hesitation, he opened the door and left the room.
Glancing back at the Tiger Phoenix, Nikolai’s eyes brightened with a hint of relief. “My wedding night. There’s still time right?”
The Tiger Phoenix shot him a flat, indifferent glance.
Nikolai rose up and outstretched his arms with a deep groan. His body felt extremely rigid, and he was hungry… Two weeks was a long time wasn’t it? A sudden dazzling smile appeared on his lips, making his eyes shine a little, and he spoke. “It can.”
He took some time to tidy up afterward, put on some clothes, and left the
room.
Nikolai strolled down the lengthy corridor illuminated by candles with his steps quietly resonating on the polished marble floor. A thrill ran down his spine as he anticipated seeing his bride.
