The fifth floor of the hospital was entirely dedicated to private wards. Each suite was a single room, and every patient had a dedicated medical team at their disposal.
Naturally, the cost was exorbitant. Even with money, securing a room here wasn't guaranteed.
Charley Sheffield had handled the room and the medical team, while Saul Joplin took care of the medical bills.
Down in the lobby, Charley picked up a bouquet of fresh flowers. Before walking through the door, he adjusted his suit jacket.
Saul rolled his eyes at him. "My parents have met you before. Stop strutting like a peacock."
Charley didn't even look at him. "You should spend more time reflecting on why others succeed instead of being bitter."
Saul choked on his words, unable to come up with a quick comeback. All he could do was glare.
Lavinia Joplin watched her cousin and his best friend bicker. Seeing them like this, who could possibly guess Charley's true identity and power?
When they pushed the door open, Mandy Summers was smoothing out her clothes. She asked Latham Joplin nervously, "Honey, do you think I'm dressed too casually today?"
"Not at all. You look wonderful. Don't worry," Latham reassured her.
As the door opened, Lavinia called out, "Uncle Latham, Aunt Mandy," and her eyes immediately welled up with tears.
She hadn't seen them in a month. Even though they spoke on the phone every day, seeing them in person turned a month's worth of longing into something physical. Her nose stung with emotion.
Latham was propped up against the headboard, looking significantly better than the last time she saw him. The new medication was clearly working well.
Mandy cupped Lavinia's face, murmuring about how she had lost weight. Then, her gaze shifted to Charley. Her eyes sparkled with joy, excitement, and a touch of shyness.
Charley walked up to the bed, set the flowers down, and greeted them respectfully. His manners and demeanor were absolutely flawless.
Mandy looked at him, her lips parting a few times. It was obvious she was still adjusting to the fact that her son's best friend was suddenly her prospective nephew-in-law. There were things she wanted to ask but felt too embarrassed to bring up.
Charley pulled out a velvet box and handed it to Mandy with both hands.
