Seeing him finally speak up, his face etched with blatant anxiety, Sasha felt a wave of vindication.
Even if he had momentarily strayed, she was absolutely certain that Lydia's place in his heart was untouchable!
Ignoring Lydia's attempts to stop her, she let out a harsh scoff. "You heard me right. She was finally moved by you. She was actually going to give you a chance on your hundredth confession..."
She paused, shooting a look of pure disgust at Elena, who was still draped over him. "And what do you do? You betray her for some trashy woman!"
Hearing that, Sterling turned back to Lydia, a desperate flicker of hope igniting in his eyes. "Is it true? What she said?"
Elena practically rolled her eyes at the lovesick fool. One casual sentence from an outsider was enough to send his emotions spiraling.
Still, she didn't rush to interrupt, waiting just as eagerly for Lydia's response.
"No. Sasha misunderstood what I meant."
A second later, Lydia met Sterling's gaze and gave a cold, detached reply.
Instantly, the hopeful light in Sterling's puppy-dog eyes died. He offered a bleak, self-deprecating smile. "Right. Why would you ever accept me?"
Seeing his reaction, even Sasha was stunned. "But Lydia, you clearly..."
"You misunderstood. I never meant that."
Lydia cut her off again, enunciating every word to make her stance crystal clear.
Elena, however, arched an eyebrow, an amused smile playing on her lips.
"So the school belle doesn't even like my boyfriend. That's a huge relief."
As she spoke, she tilted her head and nuzzled affectionately against his cheek, her voice dripping with sweet seduction. "Babe, you have me now. Isn't that enough?"
Sterling was too crestfallen to keep up the act and didn't bother responding.
Just then, an excited female voice pierced through the crowd. "Sasha is just a rabid dog on Lydia's leash. She attacks anyone she can sink her teeth into!"
It was Lorelei, who had finally made it downstairs. The dark scowl had vanished from her face, replaced by a look of sheer, vindictive thrill.
Not too long ago, Sasha had been loudly proclaiming in class that Lydia was finally going to accept The Prince's confession, obnoxiously threatening to tattle on Lorelei to Sterling.
Even though she was furious, Lorelei had started mentally preparing herself for the humiliating reality of having to apologize to Lydia.
She never in a million years expected to get a text from a friend saying her sarcastic prediction had actually come true—Sterling had shown up with a new girlfriend and was practically making out with her in public!
Stunned, she sprinted downstairs just in time to witness this glorious public smackdown.
It was intensely satisfying!
The sheer thrill of the moment completely revived her!
