"I know she's your girlfriend and you want to protect her, so... Sterling, all I'm asking for is an apology. I want her to apologize to Sasha."
Listening to the exchange, Elena finally understood the situation.
Although she didn't know exactly what had transpired in The Whispering Grove, judging by the current atmosphere, one thing was absolutely certain.
Sterling hadn't confessed the truth about their fake arrangement, and Lydia was completely in the dark.
And... Sterling was clearly throwing a petty tantrum.
So, Elena stepped forward, hugging his arm and acting as sweet as pie. "Babe, if you want me to apologize to her, I will. I'll do whatever you say~"
Ultimately, Lydia was the girl he was completely obsessed with. If all she wanted was an apology, he'd probably agree just to appease her.
Elena didn't mind offering a few empty words.
She hadn't lost anything in this exchange anyway. She had already gotten her revenge with interest.
"Why should Elena apologize? She's clearly the victim here!"
Unexpectedly, Lorelei shouted indignantly, completely outraged by the suggestion.
"Or could it be that Sasha cornering Elena was actually your idea all along, since she's your best friend?"
Seeing this, Elena—who was still wearing her jacket—couldn't help but worry a little for the rich girl.
One day, Lydia and Sterling would inevitably get their happy ending.
Offending Lydia so publicly right now was a seriously bad move.
Lydia didn't even turn around, keeping her steady gaze locked ahead. "Lorelei, you've always had an agenda against me, so I won't hold this against you. But please refrain from your malicious speculations!"
Sasha glared furiously at Lorelei, raising her voice to clarify. "This had nothing to do with Lydia! I couldn't stand her, so I decided to corner her myself. I take full responsibility for my own actions!"
Almost the exact moment she finished speaking, Sterling responded in a slow, deliberate drawl. "Since you're taking full responsibility, then you'll take back exactly what you dished out."
For a split second, everyone froze, assuming they had misheard him.
Sterling sounded so casual, he might as well have been discussing the weather.
Sasha was utterly horrified, her voice breaking into a shrill shriek. "Sterling! I'm Lydia's best friend! You're blindly taking Elena's side like this... aren't you afraid of breaking Lydia's heart?"
"She's just a woman from The Midnight Lounge! She can't even compare to Lydia's pinky finger! What could you possibly see in her?"
Without even bothering to look up, Sterling affectionately ruffled Elena's damp hair. "She's my girlfriend. Naturally, everything about her is perfect."
In that exact moment, his words and actions radiated pure adoration, indulgence, and affection.
But Elena just felt a bizarre wave of absolute terror, goosebumps erupting all over her arms.
Only Lorelei's face lit up, cupping her cheeks in sheer delight. "Wow, I am so here for this! Elena is so lucky to have a boyfriend like Sterling. I am so jealous of her right now!"
Elena was speechless.
If she wasn't the only one who knew the truth, she might have actually believed the performance herself!
