Walking away from the car, Tara instantly regrets her childish outburst. She is furious with herself for throwing yet another tantrum in front of him. She has never been an emotional person. Yet, whenever Danny is involved, she loses all rational control and acts like a petty teenager. It is humiliating.
She shakes her head, forcing the chaotic thoughts away. Let nature take its course.
She steps into the restaurant to wait for Bianca. She has blown her off too many times; if she cancels again, Bianca will definitely complain endlessly.
But after thirty minutes pass, there is still no sign of her.
Bianca is fiercely punctual. Whether it is work or casual drinks with friends, she always arrives ten minutes early. This is entirely out of character. Tara calls and texts, but she gets absolute silence.
Unease settling in her chest, Tara calls Tricia.
"Bianca? No, she isn't at the office, and I haven't seen her," Tricia says, her voice lacing with concern. "Do you think something happened?"
"She probably just got held up. I will try her again and let you know," Tara replies smoothly, keeping her tone light. There is no point in dragging Tricia into a panic before she knows the facts.
Hanging up, Tara dials Bianca's number again. This time, the call connects—only to be instantly declined.
She unlocks the screen. It is a text from Bianca.
[Help me!]
Tara's blood runs cold. Her instinct is to call back immediately, but she forces herself to stop. Ringing the phone might alert whoever is holding Bianca captive, putting her in even deadlier danger. Bianca is definitely in trouble.
Eyes turning ruthless, Tara quickly pulls up her secure tracking software, ready to tear the city apart to find her.
