Tara tilts her chin playfully. "Do you really think upgrading our status is that easy? It all depends on how many points you score. If I'm satisfied, I'll naturally consider a promotion."
Without waiting for a response, she steps out of the car and walks away, not even throwing a glance over her shoulder. Her apartment building is just a few yards away, making it the perfect opportunity for a quick escape. Who knows what this man might try next? It isn't as if he hasn't pulled any bold stunts before; he definitely has a track record.
Watching her retreating figure, Danny lets out a soft, amused chuckle. If she didn't live so incredibly close, he would undoubtedly pull her right back into the passenger seat.
But he does catch the most crucial detail of her parting words. See how many points he scores?
Does that mean the little menace is secretly keeping a tally in some mental notebook, adding and deducting points for his behavior? That has to be a good sign. At the very least, he is on her shortlist of candidates.
The thought sends a rush of sheer elation through his chest. He needs to figure out exactly what earns him bonus points. If he hits her ideal score fast enough, he might finally earn an official title as her boyfriend.
After dropping Tara off, Danny gets a call from Luke and heads out to grab a few drinks with him.
The next day, between the heavy drinking at the banquet and the late-night drinks with his buddy, Danny sleeps well past sunrise. By the time he finally drags himself downstairs, he realizes he isn't alone.
Catherine has always adored Julianna. She firmly believes only the Sinclair family matches their status, making her incredibly proud of the alliance she arranged. Now that Danny blew the arrangement to pieces, the old lady spends every waking moment complaining. Even when Katie isn't at the estate, her phone rings off the hook with Catherine's endless grievances. Living under the same roof with her right now is unimaginable.
"Right," Danny mutters, not offering any further defense. He did unilaterally break the engagement, so he bears the blame. If his mother needs his place as a sanctuary, he can hardly turn her away.
Katie sighs, her tone shifting to motherly concern. "You insisted on moving out the second you took over the company, but you don't even take care of yourself. You practically live at the office. The family reassigned the best chef to you just to ensure you eat balanced meals, but you're never home. You don't even eat on schedule."
As a mother who spends years traveling for work, she naturally worries about her son's diet and health.
