The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 705

After what feels like an eternity, Danny slowly pulls back, leaving them both breathless. He gazes down at Tara's flushed, radiant complexion and lets out a low, husky laugh.

"Why so shy all of a sudden? You were acting pretty tough a minute ago," he teases, his voice a seductive rumble. Unable to resist, he leans in and affectionately nuzzles his nose against hers.

"Who's shy?" Tara glares at him playfully, though her voice lacks its usual bite. "You just... caught me off guard." Her words trail off into a breathless whisper.

Danny pulls her flush against his chest, resting his chin softly on the top of her head. "Tara, whatever happens next, don't try to carry the weight of the world by yourself. I'm right here."

Leaning into his solid warmth, she listens to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart. A deep sense of comfort settles over her. "I know," she murmurs.

In that quiet moment, she hopes her father's words come true. She genuinely hopes she and Danny can walk through the rest of their lives together, side by side.

The following morning.

Danny offers to accompany her to the hospital, but Tara firmly declines. She knows he's buried under a mountain of executive work, and she refuses to let him rearrange his entire schedule just to hold her hand in a waiting room. Besides, she doesn't want to coddle herself; treating patients is her domain.

The moment Tara steps into the hospital corridor, the extended Dennis family descends on her like a flock of desperate pigeons.

"Tara, thank God you're here! Your father told us you can save your mother and Nikolai. Please, you have to help them!"

"We're counting on you! We know you can pull off a miracle."

Before Alec can recover, Charles strides down the hallway.

"If you don't know what you're talking about, shut your mouth and stay out of her way," Charles snaps at Alec. Ignoring the flock of sycophantic relatives, he gestures for Tara to follow him toward the ICU.

Nikolai's condition is incredibly critical, making him their absolute priority. Tara shifts instantly into a state of clinical detachment. She dons her sterile medical scrubs and walks through the restricted double doors without breaking stride.

The hospital director recognizes her immediately. Aware of her legendary medical prowess and briefed by Charles, the staff gives her unrestricted VIP access, assigning top-tier department heads to act as her temporary assistants.

When Tara finally steps up to Nikolai's bed, she freezes. She can barely recognize the man lying in front of her.
