The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 444

By 8:00 PM, the city was shrouded in a hazy layer of neon lights. In this bizarre, kaleidoscopic world, the true and false sides of human nature were completely buried, fading away like a mirage.

Not long after Vivian returned to her hotel, Zoe's messages came through.

[Cynthia should have taken her private jet back this time. Our people found out she made a trip to France, but the rest of her itinerary is unclear.]

[Reports indicate she came back alone. Aside from her bodyguards and assistant, no one else traveled with her.]

Vivian glanced at the text, set her phone down, and stared blankly out the window.

Given the Sterling family's intense paranoia, it was entirely normal to find dead ends.

Thinking back to the shrewd woman she had met that afternoon, Vivian frowned. Cynthia had finally returned to the country. Was it really just because of Silas's marriage?

It sounded plausible, but it felt a little flimsy.

She could only hope her sudden appearance was a blessing, not a curse.

Vivian finished the last sip of her wine and was just about to wash up for bed when a violent banging erupted at the door. Every strike was heavier than the last, completely devoid of patience.

She walked over lazily and pulled it open.

The woman pushed past her and stormed inside, her voice dripping with rage.

"Vivian, I honestly can't believe you're that kind of woman! You just dumped me with another man for no reason! Do you have a conscience?"

Vivian leaned against the doorframe, watching as Scarlett Sinclair marched over to the mini-fridge, cracked open a bottle of water, and chugged more than half of it.

When the silence dragged on, Scarlett turned around.

"Why are you still standing there?"

"I'm waiting for you to finish your drink and leave so I can close the door."

"..."

Scarlett let out a bitter laugh and threw herself onto the sofa. "Well, you're going to be disappointed. I'm not leaving tonight."

Vivian raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong? Zachary Chase didn't satisfy you? Should I call him back to carry you out again?"

When it came to trading insults, Scarlett never won. She couldn't even be bothered to argue.

"Mind your own business. I'm not leaving tonight, and I'm sleeping in your bed."

Vivian shot her a flat look and closed the door.

She walked over and picked up her phone.
