The Wife he threw Away (Claire and Lucian) novel Chapter 293

I woke up slowly.

For a few seconds, I didn’t know where I was. Until I felt the warmth beside me.

I opened my eyes to see Lucian still asleep beside me.

His face was turned slightly toward me, his dark hair messy against the pillow.

I smiled.

Yesterday came rushing back to me—the ultrasound, Lucian’s stunned expression, the tear that had slipped down his cheek, his arms around me.

The memory of how he had carried me like I was the most precious thing in the world, and his voice when he had promised to protect me... to protect our baby.

I placed a hand over my stomach.

There was still nothing to feel—nothing to see. But I knew there was a tiny life inside me.

Our baby.

I couldn’t stop smiling.

I turned onto my side and watched Lucian sleep.

It was strange seeing him this peaceful.

The man who carried the weight of a company like Dhark Holdings on his shoulders looked completely different when he slept.

Younger. Softer. Almost boyish.

His hand suddenly moved across the mattress, and found my waist.

For a moment, I froze.

His eyes remained closed as he pulled me closer.

I laughed quietly.

“You’re awake.”

“No.”

His voice was rough with sleep.

“You are.”

“I’m not.”

“Then how did you manage to pull me closer?”

“Instinct.”

I smiled.

His eyes finally opened.

The moment he saw me, his expression softened. “Good morning, beautiful.”

“Good morning.”

He looked at me for a moment. Then his eyes dropped to my stomach, and a smile slowly appeared on his face.

“Good morning, baby girl.”

I laughed. “You don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl.”

“I wasn’t talking to you.”

I gasped. “Excuse me?”

He chuckled and pulled me closer. “I was talking to our baby.”

“You’re already choosing favorites.”

“I’m the father—I’m allowed to.”

I shook my head, laughing. “You’re going to be unbearable.”

“I think I’m going to be worse.”

I raised a brow. “How much worse?”

He thought about it. “I’m going to call you every two hours.”

“No.”

“Every hour.”

“Absolutely not.”

“I’ll have one of my assistants follow you around with snacks.”

I stared at him. “Lucian.”

“What?”

“I am pregnant, not dying.”

“I know.” He kissed my forehead. “I’m just so happy.”

His voice became quieter. He kissed my forehead again. “Very happy.”

I smiled. “So am I.”

He placed his hand over my stomach.

For a moment, neither of us spoke. His thumb moved gently across the fabric of my nightgown.

“There’s really a baby in there.”

I looked at him. “Apparently so.”

He smiled again. “I still can’t believe it.”

“Neither can I.”

He leaned closer and kissed me softly.

When he pulled away, his forehead rested against mine. “I’ve been thinking about names.”

I laughed. “Already?”

“I told you. I’m going to be unbearable.”

“Okay. What names?”

“If it’s a boy…” He paused dramatically.

I narrowed my eyes at him.

“I’m not even sure I want to hear which names you’ve picked.”

“I’m still considering.”

“And if it’s a girl?”

His smile widened. “I have a long list.”

I laughed. “You actually made a list in your head?”

“I had a lot of time to think last night.”

“While you were supposed to be sleeping?”

“I couldn’t sleep.”

“Why?”

His beautiful dark eyes met mine, and something softened in them. “Because I was too happy.”

My smile softened.
