As soon as they got home, Brianna rushed over to check on Kendra, afraid that what had just happened might have left her shaken.

“Kendra, are you okay? Did that scare you?” Brianna asked, her voice laced with guilt.

Kendra looked at her coldly, shot a glance at Brandon, and just shook her head without saying a word.

Brianna assumed Kendra had been frightened, so she pulled her close and held her in her arms. “I’m sweetheart. I promise I won’t let you go through anything like this again.”

sorry,

“Don’t be so anxious. She’s fine,” Brandon said, frowning as he noticed how distant Kendra was.

No one knew his daughter better than he did. Brandon figured Darcy must have said something to her.

Just then, Brandon’s phone rang. He answered it and stepped out of the living room.

As soon as Brandon was out of sight, Kendra wriggled free from Brianna’s arms.

Kendra gave Brianna a frosty stare, accusation clear in her voice. “Why did you hurt Darcy?”

Seeing the hatred in Kendra’s eyes, Brianna felt herself spiraling downward. She forced herself to keep her composure as she explained. “I didn’t hurt her. She threw herself down deliberately.”

Kendra scoffed, glaring at her mother. “Why would she do that to herself?”

At that moment, Brianna gazed at Kendra, and a wave of emotion she couldn’t quite name washed over her. Her daughter’s face held a maturity far beyond her years.

Brianna was lost in thought for a while before shaking her head in resignation. ‘Fine. If this is how things are going to be, then so be it.’

“That’s something you should ask her yourself,” Brianna said, her face growing serious as she withdrew her arms from Kendra.

“Last year at the ski resort, you broke your leg. Wasn’t it Darcy who pushed you?” Brianna’s gaze was icy as she looked at Kendra. “And when I fell off that cliff and nearly lost my life, that was her doing too.”

Brianna watched Kendra closely. Kids couldn’t hide their feelings, and Kendra’s lashes flickered, betraying her unease at having her secret exposed.

“Darcy’s never had good intentions. She’s always been scheming, using you to get close to your dad. If you want to let her use you as her weapon, that’s your call.” Brianna had a heart-to-heart with Kendra, her voice steady and serious as she laid everything bare.

“If I really pushed her, the cops would’ve been all over me by now,” Brianna said coldly. “If I didn’t, well, she’s done plenty of bad things, and sooner or later, she’ll pay for them. That’s how adults play the game. Don’t pin everything on me, like I’m the villain here.”

Kendra never expected her mother to act so cold. Suddenly, a strange sense of panic hit her, as if she was about to lose Brianna forever.

Brianna spoke calmly, almost relieved. “You’ve always thought I’d hurt Darcy, always keeping your guard up, just because you know I’d love you no matter what. But now I’ve realized something. Sometimes, even between parents and their children, the bond isn’t always as deep as we hope.”

Brianna’s voice was full of resignation. “But if you think Darcy could ever be your mom, that’s just wishful thinking. I’m her half-sister, and she’s been chasing after your dad. Going after her own brother-in-law is just wrong. Even if I divorced your dad, your grandma and the rest of the family would never let her become part of this family.”

With that, Brianna stood up and said coldly, “Make sure Darcy hears that from you.”

Then she walked upstairs without looking back.

When Brandon came back, he found Kendra sitting frozen on the couch, her face pale, tears threatening to spill as she bit her lip, determined not to let them fall.

Brandon’s heart ached for her. He looked around, but Brianna was gone.

He gathered Kendra into his arms, pretty sure she and Brianna had just had a fight.

“What’s wrong? Where’s your mom?” Brandon asked gently.

‘She must have defended Darcy again, and that probably made Brianna upset,’ he thought to himself.

“I don’t want Mom anymore!” Kendra burst into tears, hugging Brandon tightly.

Brandon tried to comfort her, his voice gentle and patient. “Your mom loves you so much. How can you say that? Come on, sweetheart, don’t cry.”

“Mom doesn’t love me,” Kendra sobbed, her voice breaking.

All these years, Brianna had never been this cold to her before.

Kendra was scared she might lose her mother, but even angrier that her mother didn’t want her anymore.

“Alright, alright. Once your mom cools off, just apologize to her and it’ll all blow over,” Brandon tried to comfort her, his voice gentle and patient.

The sound of footsteps echoed from the stairs. Brianna was coming down.

Kendra assumed her mother was coming to apologize to her. She stuck out her lip and turned her head away, refusing to meet Brianna’s gaze.

But to her surprise, Brianna ignored them completely and headed straight for the door.

“Are you going out?” Brandon asked.

“Mm-hmm,” Brianna replied, not slowing down.

“Where are you going?” Brandon asked, setting Kendra down and walking over to Brianna, his voice full of

concern.

“I had Clair check the security footage yesterday. I’m just going to see what he found,” Brianna replied, her tone flat.

As soon as he heard Clair’s name, Brandon’s brow furrowed.

“No need to ask. There are no cameras in the banquet hall,” Brandon replied.

Brianna stared at him in surprise. “How do you know that?”

‘Did he tamper with the cameras?’ she wondered.

“I already had someone check last night,” Brandon replied.

Brianna was caught off guard, momentarily unable to respond.

‘Was he doing this for me, or for Darcy?’ She didn’t dare ask, and honestly, she didn’t even want to know.

Brianna just said “Oh,” and without another word, kept walking toward the door.

“Where else are you going?” Brandon asked, his frown deepening.

‘Is she still planning to go see Clair?’ he wondered.

He’d already checked Darcy’s phone last night and seen the photos of her tempting Brianna upstairs.

‘Isn’t she aware how wrong it is to be that close to him?’ Anger welled up in Brandon’s chest, making him feel restless and agitated, though he couldn’t even explain why.

“I need to clear my head,” Brianna walked out without looking back.

Brandon watched her walk away, his eyes clouded with mixed emotions.

He wanted to chase after her, but found himself rooted to the spot. He wanted to stop her from leaving, but he couldn’t bring himself to say anything.

Frustration and anger churned inside him, leaving him completely lost. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

But Brianna’s attitude, and those photos of her with Clair, stabbed at his heart like a thorn he couldn’t pull

out.

After leaving the villa, Brianna gave Patsy a call.

She didn’t want to head back to the villa in the south of the city. She’d probably run into someone from the Meyers family. Also, she just didn’t have the energy to act like nothing happened if she went back to the Campbell family.

So, in the end, she decided to crash at Patsy’s place.

Patsy was really worried about Brianna, so as soon as she got her location, she hurried over to pick her up.

The two of them talked things over as they headed back to Patsy’s house.

“I’m not sure… Should I tell the police about what happened at the ski resort?” Brianna hesitated.

Patsy rolled her eyes at her. “Seriously? I told you to call the cops back then, but you kept hesitating. Now you want to bring it up, and you still have no proof? It’ll just make you look even more suspicious, like you had a motive to push her.”

Brianna nodded. “I told Gabrielle that Darcy’s baby might not even be Brandon’s. Did she ever get a paternity test?”

“Just call your mother-in-law right now and ask her. Get the real story so you know where you stand.” Patsy said.

Brianna grabbed her phone and dialed Gabrielle.

“Hi, Mom, I was thinking about getting a paternity test for the baby Darcy lost. Is that doable?” Brianna asked.

“Oh, you finally remembered, huh?” Gabrielle said, her tone dripping with impatience. “I’ve already had the test done. And what’s this rumor about you pushing her down the stairs?”

Gabrielle was fishing for answers.

“It wasn’t me. She framed me,” Brianna replied firmly.

“I figured you weren’t capable of something like that,” Gabrielle said, sounding relieved.

They didn’t have much to say to each other, so they hung up pretty quickly.

Patsy grinned. “See? You can relax now. Your mother-in-law doesn’t mess around. She won’t let anyone walk all over her.”

Brianna still frowned, not really worried about the DNA test itself. What really bothered her was that Darcy might make a big deal out of it and use it to stir up even more trouble.

“I’m worried Darcy will hype this up online. With Unity Group gone, the only way she can raise her profile is by jumping back into the acting world. If she makes herself look like the victim, she’ll have the internet eating out of her hand,” Brianna said.

She had every reason to worry. The next day, Darcy, Brianna, and Horizon Group were all over the hot search, blowing up on social media.
