Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 121

Chapter 121

“Are you listening to me, Julian? Your wife is out there making a fool of you and you’re just going to let her?”

“I’ll handle it, Mom.”

“Handle it? You’ve been saying that for days and nothing has changed She’s still running around, duing whatever she wants, while you sit here like a…”

“Mom. I said I’ll handle it.”

I walked past her and headed for the stairs. She kept talking, her voice following me up the steps, but I tuned it out. I had already gotten updates from the man I assigned to tail Celeste. He had sent me pictures of her movements throughout the day. All she did was work at Helix, go shopping and spend the night at Helix. Nothing suspicious. Nothing incriminating.

I went straight to the bedroom and threw myself on the bed, not even bothering to take off my clothes. My head hit the pillow and I was gone before I could form another thought.

When I woke up, it was well past noon. The sunlight was streaming through the curtains, bright and unforgiving, stabbing into my eyes like needles. I groaned and rolled over, checking my phone.

Updates from my PI. Celeste was still at Helix. She hadn’t gone anywhere. She hadn’t come home.

How long was she planning to keep this up?

I sighed, rubbing my face with both hands. I was tired of fighting. Tired of the tension. Tired of coming home to an empty house and a cold bed. I decided to give in to her this time. I would have gone straight to Helix to surprise her, but I hadn’t been to my company in a while. I would go there for a few hours first, take care of some business, and then show up at Helix and try to make peace.

I showered and got dressed. The hot water helped clear some of the fog from my mind. I put on a fresh suit, checked myself in the mirror, and headed downstairs.

The smell of food hit me as I reached the bottom of the stairs. My mother had cooked, and my stomach growled in response. I realized I hadn’t eaten in almost twenty four hours.

I sat down at the dining table and ate quickly, barely tasting the food, just shoveling it in to quiet the hunger.

My mother sat across from me, her arms crossed, her expression tight.

“You need to talk to your wife, Julian. This is getting out of hand. She didn’t come home last night. She’s ignoring your calls. She brought a man into your house. And you’re just sitting there eating like nothing is wrong?”

I set down my fork and looked at her.
