Chapter 204
CELESTE
I got to my feet, my heart hammering against my ribs. “Felix, what are you doing here?”
“I came to see Mom. And I heard everything. So you came here to tell Mom lies and make yourself look innocent?”
He was still speaking when he charged toward me, his hands reaching for my throat. He slammed me against the wall, his fingers wrapping around my neck, squeezing so hard that could feel my windpipe closing, my breath coming in short, desperate gasps.
“Felix, let her go!” my mother screamed, hitting him on the back with her fists. “Let her go right now!”
“No, Mom. I knew it. I said it. Celeste was sleeping with Seraphine’s husband. Now she has admitted it. She wants to be with him because of his money. She is nothing but a gold-digging whore…”
I did not let him finish. I brought my knee up as hard as I could, connecting with his balls with every ounce of strength I had left. His grip on my throat loosened immediately and he crumpled to the ground, his hands cupping himself as he groaned in pain.
I doubled over, gasping for air, my mother’s hands on my back, steadying me. When I finally caught my breath, I straightened up and glared down at Felix, who was still writhing on the floor.
“Mom, everything I have told you is the truth,” I said, my voice hoarse but steady. “I want to be with Dominic and he wants to be with me too. No one is going to stop me.”
Felix got to his feet, his face purple with rage, and he pointed a shaking finger at me. “You…”
But I had already reached into my bag. I pulled out the pepper spray I always carried and aimed it at his face, pressing the button and watching the cloud of vapor hit him square in the eyes. He screamed, stumbling backward, clawing at his face as the burning sensation spread across his skin.
My Mom stood frozen, tears in her eyes as she watched her children tear each other apart.
