Logan caught a sudden breath, instantly recognizing the clean, soothing scent of lavender from that morning.
And the undeniable softness of the woman pressed against his chest.
Their eyes locked, the air between them suddenly thick with tension.
Flustered, Sloane pressed her hands against his chest to push him away—just as both of their Bio-Bond Bands simultaneously blasted a cheesy pop song at maximum volume.
"Step a little closer, let me hold your hand! Be a little braver, and I'll be your man..."
The two of them stood there in stunned, agonizing silence.

Logan drove a beat-up, vintage BMW SUV.
Times had changed drastically. The wealthy elite exclusively drove high-end domestic electric vehicles, while only the working class clung to imported gas guzzlers.
Logan's ride was clearly an antique; he had to slam the passenger door with serious force just to get it to latch.
The seatbelt buckle on her side was jammed, forcing Logan to lean his massive torso completely across her lap to muscle the clip into place.
"Sorry about the rust bucket," Logan muttered, putting the car in gear.
Sloane offered a self-deprecating smile. "I don't even own a car. Who am I to judge?"
"Do you want one? I could pull a Benz or a Land Rover for you. Whichever you prefer."
"No, really, it's fine!" Sloane waved her hands frantically.
They might be legally married, but they had only known each other for two days. There was absolutely no way she was going to accept a whole car from him.
Logan saw right through her panic. "Zane has a ton of salvaged inventory on the lot that's about to be scrapped. I could fix one up for you in an afternoon. It wouldn't cost me anything, assuming you don't mind driving a salvage title."
"Oh..." So that was it.
Sloane felt a little ridiculous for overthinking it.
Still, she politely declined his offer, explaining that taking a self-driving cab was much easier since she never had to worry about parking at the hospital.
As Logan merged onto the highway, he glanced over at her. "Have you eaten? Want to grab dinner before we head back to the apartment?"
Sloane had been in surgery for hours and completely missed lunch. She was practically starving.
