You Had Me, You Lost Me, You'll Never Find Me novel Chapter 136

She hadn't held back; the slap was brutal.

Sylvia's eyes were blazing with pure, unadulterated disgust. "You really deserve to die, Ashton."

Ashton slowly lifted his eyes to look at her, the tenderness in his gaze icing over. "You're defending him this much? You don't even know the whole story, and you're slapping me with everything you've got. You're really something."

A fiery hatred burned in Sylvia's eyes. "That's right, I'm defending him. He's ten thousand times the man you are, and he's worth ten thousand of you! I regret the day I ever met you. Just looking at you makes me sick!"

Ashton tilted his head up, absolute fury igniting in his chest. Whether it was from pure jealousy or bitter refusal to let go, he suddenly snapped, grabbing her arm with a punishing grip.

"Looking at me makes you sick?"

"Who was the one begging for my attention back then, telling me she loved me? Who said as long as I didn't change, she would love me for the rest of her life?"

"What the hell did I do wrong for you to treat me like this? You really don't have a heart, Sylvia."

His grip on her wrist was so tight it felt like he was going to snap her bones. His voice trembled with rage, looking like a stubborn boy desperately trying to hold onto a treasure that had always belonged to him.

Sylvia's nails dug into her own flesh. The eyes that had once looked at him with overflowing love were now completely barren.

"You know exactly what you did. I thought I understood how low you could sink, but you keep breaking right through the floor. You're a monster!"

Being cursed at like that made Ashton clench his jaw so hard a muscle feathered in his cheek. He looked like he was about to explode, but after a long, suffocating silence, he actually forced it down.

"You can hit me, you can scream at me. I'll take it all. I can even let go of whatever happened between you and Julian in the past, as long as you cut all ties with him from now on."

If it had been the old Ashton, he never would have believed he could utter such utterly pathetic words. He was debasing himself to the bone.

Whatever she wanted to do, he'd accept it.

"I was too cold before. I didn't care about your feelings, and I said some really messed up things. I'm apologizing to you now. Beat me, punish me, do whatever you want. There were so many times I regretted the things I said the moment they left my mouth, but my ego was too massive to apologize. I thought too highly of myself. I'll change."

"I've called off the engagement, too. I don't want to make excuses; I was wrong to do that. But when it comes to marriage, I never actually wanted anyone else. Once I had you, it was only ever you. I haven't been with anyone else."

"Sylv, come back to me. We can go back to how we were. I swear I'll treat you better."

If it had been the Sylvia from before, hearing those words would have made her ecstatic.

The Ashton back then was so aloof and arrogant. He couldn't be bothered to whisper sweet nothings. While he was generous with his actions, getting a single romantic confession out of him was like pulling teeth.

A bone-deep chill radiated from the very core of Ashton's chest. The air around him suddenly felt freezing, the oxygen thick and suffocating. He had never felt this kind of agonizing pain in his life.

So this was what it felt like to be completely degraded by the person you loved.

The untreated wounds covering his back began to throb violently, the pain shooting through his veins.

He took a sharp breath, suddenly craving a cigarette like he was dying of thirst.

She said she didn't want him anymore. She said she didn't love him.

She was supposed to be his.

Julian fucking Sterling. He wanted to kill him.

The rain was pouring relentlessly tonight. The bay window in the apartment had a tiny gap, letting a few drops of water seep in. As Sylvia went to seal the window shut, she suddenly noticed a figure standing under the streetlight below.
