The moment I walked in, I slammed the door behind me hard that it made the frame rattle, but I couldn’t give a damn.
Good, let it echo so that she can hear
Taking a deep breath, and trying to calm myself down, I stood there for a second, my back pressed up against the wood. The silence in my room was way more different than it was downstairs. Though safe from her hurtful words, it was still hallow.
I reached for the door, clicking the lock, hopefully it keeps it all out. Leaning back against the door for another two to three seconds, I pushed away from it, and make my way further into the room, kicking my shoes off without looking.
One had hit the wall and the other had slid under the desk, but I didn’t care.
“Freaking unbelievable,” I muttered out, dragging my hand through my hair, the word felt empty, not enough to carry the weight of what had just happened.
Taking yet another deep breath, I walked over to the room, stopping right in front of my vanity, my reflections staring back at me, reflecting every single thing I was going through.
The anger, the disbelief and other emotions that rested within my eyes, one that I wasn’t ready to accept, even though it was crawling its way into my skin.
My head tilted to the side, studying my face, checking for a slight chance of a crack. But even with the turmoil and anger inside of me, there still wasn’t a sign of tears or weakness.
“That’s right,” I mumbled out to myself again.
I wasn’t going to let her words get to, to let myself fall apart. I had build up a strong wall and wasn’t about to let it crumble all because of her.
Taking a seat in front of the mirror, my hand reached forwards to my table, reaching for my lip gloss and began applying it slowly, carefully tracing the shape of my lips.
Once I was done, I placed it down, picking up the powder, then quickly touched under my eyes.
Everything is fine
I am after Delilah Quinn
I am perfect
I….
My finger stilled halfway through, my reflection blurred in second, but I was quick to blink it away, my jaw tightened.
“No,” I muttered out gently before leaning closer to the mirror, steadying myself.
She was the better daughter
The words replayed in my head no matter how hard I tried to push them back, not to dwell on them, but they carried like a song on a loop, playing over and over again with no ends.
My jaw tightened again, as I carried on applying the powder on my face. “I don’t care,” I said again under my breath. “I don’t.”
My voice sounded so wrong, thin, forced

Shaking my head, I pressed my lips together, picking up the gloss again like it would fix it, fix everyone with a second layer. But my hands wasn’t as steady this time and the gloss dragged off the line.
My gaze rested on my reaction, at the line of the gloss, and I feel something in my chest twist, sharp and ugly, that before I could even stop it, it had managed to slip away, as a tear slide down my cheek.
It slips, just single tear, tracing the line straight through everything that I had just fixed, leaving me rooted in my spot, in a way that felt like, If I didn’t move, then it didn’t count.
Right
If I ignored it, then it didn’t exist
But it did, and I watched it fall, hitting the desk. Something inside of me snapped.
“Fuck this.” I whispered, my hand shooting up, wiping at my face roughly.
Moving harder, and hasher, wanting so desperately to erase it, erase it all. ” I don’t care,” I said again, louder this time. But my voice cracked.
Reaching over the table again, I grabbed a tissue, scrubbing at my lips, cheeks and eyes. Smearing everything I had put on, the gloss, the powder, both gone, ruined.
But I don’t stop and kept wiping over and over again till my skin started to sting, till the girl in the mirror looked nothing like her perfect.controlled self anymore,
At this point, my breathing had become heavier and uneven. The tissue in my hold fell to the ground as I continued to stare at my reflection, my eyes, face. And that was when I saw it.
It wasn’t about the mess or the redness that had settled there. No.
It was the soft stormy gray with a hint of blue that was buried underneath, like a sky just before it break. Not bright or warm, just quiet and deep, a little too honest.
Her eyes
My lips parted as I let out a small broken laugh, “Of course I have to live with the reminder.” I whispered. My fingers tightened against the vanity.
I hated it, cause no matter what I did, there was a piece of her staring back at me, perfect, untouched and frozen in time.
I couldn’t stop the way my throat tightened at the realisation.
“I can’t believe I actually miss how you used to knock before coming into room, even when you didn’t have to.” The word slipped out like they had been waiting and they didn’t stop.
I let out a shaky breath as I continued. “Missed the times when I go into your room, trying out your clothes and taking a few, while acting like they were mine.” Another tear, and I made no attempt this time to stop it.
“I miss how you managed to make everything feel less serous and how much you don’t mind my flaws.” A humorless laughs leaves my lips as I shake my head.
“You would have hated this house now.” My voice breaks a little. “If only you were here, I know you would have stood up to her. How easy you make it look.” I gulped, biting at my lower lips “I miss having not feel like I have to compete with a….ghost.”
I bopped my head back, letting out a laugh that comes out sharper and empty this time
“God.” I muttered,” you really picked the worst time to leave.”
