Alpha Daddies And Their Innocent Little Maid (18+) novel Chapter 188

Lilith pov

My heart dropped.

She was a Moonburn?

She wasn’t from Fangspire. She had just appeared in the packhouse one day. No one ever really knew where she came from. So she…she was from the Moonburn tribe.

The ones who were wiped out years ago at the hands of—

My stomach tightened.

“Verek…” I breathed.

Lora’s expression didn’t change.

“That’s right,” she said quietly. “Verek.” She stepped back slightly, like the memories themselves were too heavy. “When I was eight years old, he came to our village,” she said. “He came alone at first. He spoke like a man offering salvation. Wealth. Safety. He said he would give us a large pack after his plans succeeded. After he became king of all packs”

Her lips curled slightly.

“All he wanted was for the Moonburns to join him. Because we were strong. He wanted us to be rogues ” Her voice hardened. “But the elders refused. They chased him out. They called him evil. They said they would not stain their hands with blood.”

Lora’s gaze lowered.

“He left that day wearing a hood, I didn’t see his face” she whispered. “But as he walked past me… I saw his eyes.” Her hands trembled slightly. “I was eight,” she said. “And when I looked into those eyes, I felt something cold crawl through me. I was terrified.”

She paused for a moment and continued.

“He wasn’t angry. His eyes had curved into slits. He was smiling.” A chill ran through me. Lora let out a shaky laugh that broke into a sob. “I knew something bad was going to happen,” she whispered. “And it did.”

“That night, everything burned. Everyone died.” Her eyes squeezed shut. “I can still hear it. The screams. The claws tearing through everything. Blood everywhere. Hundreds of rogues destroying everything we had built.”

My breath trembled.

She fell to her knees again.

“I was running with my parents,” she whispered. “But they weren’t running away with me. They were running to hide me, to keep me safe before they went back to the war.” Her voice cracked harder. “I begged them to come with me. I told them we could escape together.”

A pause.

“But they smiled at me. They said… ‘We would never leave our brothers and sisters behind. If they are slaughtered, then we will all be slaughtered.’”

The silence was heavy. Lora broke completely then, collapsing forward as she cried in front of me, shoulders shaking violently.

“I watched them leave,” she sobbed. “I watched them disappear into the fire knowing they would never come back…”

I sank against the seat, lips parted as I stammered out.

“L-Lora…”

It came out as nothing more than a broken whisper. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know how to respond to a pain like that even though I understood it. I understood her too well.

My vision blurred and before I could utter a word. Lora moved, she shook her head sharply, forcing herself upright. Wiping her tears with the back of her hand like they were something she refused to let exist for even a second longer and when she looked at me again, it wasn’t the same gaze anymore.

It was cold and sharp but her lips were still smiling. A thin, dangerous curve.

“I survived but no one else did.” she said quietly, her voice didn’t shake anymore.

“After that day, Iris died,” she continued, tilting her head slightly. “But Lora… Lora was born.”

My breath caught.

“The eight-year-old girl who once wanted dolls from her father, sweets from her mother…” her smile twisted faintly, almost mocking herself, “she died too.” Her eyes darkened. “And what was left wanted only one thing. Revenge.”

She took a slow breath, like she was reciting something she had repeated for years just to stay alive.

“For fifteen years, I trained with everything I had. I inherited every skill my ancestors left behind. I became the strongest blade they had ever produced.” Her gaze flickered. “And I did it all for one purpose. To cut Verek’s head from his body.”

Silence pressed into the room.

“And to do that…” she exhaled softly, “I had to become something worse than him. I had to remove my humanity. I had to watch people die and tell myself it was necessary. That it was for a greater good. That if Verek died… no more death would follow.”

Her fingers curled slightly.

“And it didn’t take long before I became the Fifth Reaper.”

My eyes widened.

Fifth…

There were five Reapers not four.

Lora watched my expression change and gave a faint, humorless breath.

“My identity was never meant to be revealed,” she continued. “I wasn’t sent to kill like the others. I was sent to infiltrate the Fangspire Pack. To become a spy and that’s exactly what I did. That’s why I betrayed everyone,” she said quietly.

“All of it… every smile, every friendship, it was all for this moment. Waiting for an opening to kill him.”

My chest ached painfully. I didn’t agree with her actions. I couldn’t but I understood and that was the painful part. My throat tightened as I whispered, almost unwillingly,

“Lora… you were just a child. Everything will be okay, you can still change. You don’t have to work for Verek anymore”

But Lora just gave a soft, broken chuckle and then, her expression changed, something colder, almost amused.

“You know the worst part, Lilith?” she asked quietly. My body tensed. “Verek knew everything. He knew who I was. He knew what I wanted. He knew I had been chasing his life all along, but he pretended he didn't…” her smile sharpened faintly, “and he still let me live.” Her eyes darkened. “Because I was still useful.”

My stomach dropped and then, she turned her head slowly toward the door. Tilting it slightly, like she was addressing someone who had always been there.

“Isn’t that right, Verek?”

The moment she uttered those words, my heart dropped. My head snapped toward the door in shock but the next second, blood splattered across my face.

I froze.

My body went completely still, eyes wide, my mind screaming at me not to look forward. Not to see what I already knew I wouldn’t be able to survive seeing but it was too late.

The world felt like it stopped turning.

Slowly… I turned my head. My body trembled violently as blood dripped down my cheek, warm and unbearable.

Lora was still standing there, still in front of me but in her chest—A sword.

A sword had pierced straight through her chest. Right where her heart was. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t scream. I couldn’t even breathe properly.

Blood dripped from the blade, falling in slow, horrifying drops and from the corner of her mouth and yet, Lora’s expression didn’t change.

She was still smiling, still looking at me, not a single trace of pain in her eyes. Like this was what she wanted. Like she had chosen this end.

“No…”

My voice broke as it came out, barely above a whisper. Tears spilled instantly, blurring my vision as I shook my head in disbelief but Lora kept smiling. Her eyes were growing dim now… vacant and she wasn’t even really looking at me anymore.
