When Bai Su’s Clone awoke again, she could only faintly see the glow of a fire in the distance. The surface beneath her was chilly, like she was lying on a hard stone slab.
The air was filled with the smell of earth, punctuated by the occasional chirping of insects and birds.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw a fluffy tail swaying leisurely beside her.
It was Lu Tingyan’s tail.
She instinctively reached out and stroked it. "Lu Tingyan..."
He suddenly bristled, violently slapping her hand away. "You..."
A stinging pain flared across the back of Bai Su’s hand, and only then did she belatedly recall what had happened during the day.
Lu Tingyan had lost his memory.
And he’d knocked her out.
She sat up and saw Lu Tingyan, who had just shot away from her, his face beet red.
They seemed to be in a cave. A fire was crackling nearby, roasting a few wild rabbits.
Lu Tingyan frowned. "How rude."
Bai Su was speechless.
’I used to be able to stroke Lu Tingyan’s tail whenever I wanted. Would he have dared to even make a peep?’
Considering his amnesia, she held her tongue and changed the subject. "Did you hit me?"
She felt a dull ache in the back of her neck.
Lu Tingyan snorted coldly and continued roasting the rabbits, not answering her question.
Bai Su tried to move closer, only to find that her hands and feet were tied securely with vines.
She looked at Lu Tingyan. "Why did you tie me up?"
Lu Tingyan said, "You’re a little liar. If I don’t tie you up, you’ll run away."
Bai Su asked, "You don’t believe I’m your wife?"
Lu Tingyan replied, "You’re not the first female to say that."
"..." Bai Su raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Who else told you that?"
Lu Tingyan felt an inexplicable chill run down his spine, a primal sense of fear.
But then he shook his head.
’What’s there to be afraid of from a harmless little rabbit like her?’
He pressed his lips together and handed a roasted rabbit to Bai Su. "Here."
Bai Su laughed in exasperation. "You’re giving a roasted wild rabbit to a Rabbit Beastman?"
Lu Tingyan said, "Beastmen and beasts are fundamentally different. Don’t confuse the two."
Bai Su snorted coldly.
Lu Tingyan thought for a moment, then added, "It’s brushed with honey, sprinkled with salt, and roasted until it’s crispy."
Only then did Bai Su reluctantly take the roasted rabbit. "You remember this, at least."
Lu Tingyan asked, "Remember what?"
Bai Su said, "I was the one who taught you how to roast it like this."
Lu Tingyan countered, "That’s not right. I was born knowing how."
At that moment, Bai Su wanted to smash the rabbit meat right in his face.
Lu Tingyan continued, "I may not have my memories, but I have muscle memory for a lot of things. Even if you people try to trick me, I can tell the difference."
Bai Su took a bite of the rabbit meat, not wanting to deal with him at all.
Lu Tingyan was silent for a moment. "Aren’t you going to ask what I plan to do with you now that I’ve tied you up?"
Bai Su still ignored him.
Lu Tingyan fell silent.
After she had eaten and drunk her fill, Bai Su finally looked at him. "I have no reason to lie to you. At home, we have our wedding photos, your relatives, your friends, our child..."
Lu Tingyan asked, "We have a child?"
Bai Su shot back, "Of course."
Lu Tingyan’s gaze toward her grew colder, as if he were looking at a clumsy little liar. "I don’t believe you."
Bai Su: "?"
Lu Tingyan said, "I hate cubs."
Bai Su was speechless.
’What a coincidence. Your son isn’t too fond of you, either.’
Bai Su was exasperated. "Where are you taking me?"
Lu Tingyan replied, "To find a safe place and hide."
Bai Su asked, "And then?"
Lu Tingyan glanced at her, the tips of his ears turning slightly red. "Wait."
Bai Su asked, "Wait for what?"
A determined glint appeared in Lu Tingyan’s eyes. "Wait for you to fall in love with me. Then I’ll marry you and make you my wife."
’We’ve gone around in a huge circle, right back to where we started.’
Bai Su was mentally exhausted. "I already told you, I *am* your wife."
’This is so hard. Lu Tingyan has turned into a complete idiot.’
Lu Tingyan said, "Another female also said she was my wife. I don’t believe what either of you say."
’Only what’s in my grasp is real.’
Bai Su asked, "Qin Nuo?"
Bai Su thought for a moment, then started searching for information on the smart-brain she was holding.
’She refused to accept this.’
’Is the Qin Family really that strong?’
’So strong that everyone has to be afraid of them.’
Bai Xiaolang was the first to notice something was off about her. He leaned in and asked, "Mom, what’s wrong?"
Bai Su shook her head. "I just want to know exactly how powerful they are."
’She always felt that the enemy wasn’t necessarily as powerful as one imagined.’
’Sometimes, fear of an enemy stems from our own ignorance of their upper limits.’
’If she knew the true extent of the Qin Family’s power, she could set that as her goal and surpass it.’
’The feeling of being crushed under someone’s heel was even worse.’
’What’s more, Qin Nuo had challenged her bottom line time and time again, trying to steal her family.’
’That was something she would never tolerate.’
Bai Xiaolang quickly understood what she meant and grabbed her hand. "Mom, don’t worry! The Bounty Hunter Guild will always stand with you!"
Li Chenlin added, "And me, and the Southern Country behind me."
Wen Lan sneered. "The Southern Country behind you? Wake up. There’s no one behind you."
Li Chenlin bristled. "If I wanted to become the emperor of the Southern Country, I could do it in minutes!"
Wen Lan scoffed, "Anyone can talk big."
Li Chenlin retorted, "You just wait."
Yelias brought the conversation back on track. "And the Lanton Family behind me."
Bai Su quickly laid it out on the table. "You all, plus Lu Tingyan’s Snow Country, plus my ability to rally the Sea Clan..."
"With all our forces combined, is that still not enough to negotiate with the Qin Family?"
Everyone stared at Bai Su, stunned.
Bai Su looked at them, confused. "Why are you all looking at me like that?"
Wen Dabao’s eyes sparkled with excitement. "That’s my mom for you! My idol!"
Wen Lan raised his eyebrows. "Not even the International Alliance has ever considered openly opposing the Qin Family. Not once."
Li Chenlin declared, "To hell with the damn Qin Family! Susu is right!"
"Instead of cowering here and trying to appease that young missy, we should just face them head-on!"
Wen Lan stared at Bai Su, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes.
’He thought he was starting to understand why his cousin had been through hell and back for this woman.’
’Sometimes, Bai Su was so bold, she was hardly like a female at all.’
