Lucius felt a sharp pang of hurt that Madeline still doubted his capabilities, but he knew time was of the essence. He quickly replied, "Of course. I'm your husband. I will make sure you walk again."
Madeline gave a slight nod, yielding to the reality of her situation. For now, she had no other choice. "Then take me."
Lucius's heart leaped with desperate joy. He immediately chartered a private medical jet to transport her.
As Madeline was carefully loaded onto the plane, her condition remained bleak. She stared blankly ahead, silent and motionless as a wooden doll.
No matter how desperately Lucius tried to comfort her, she only met his gaze with eyes filled with profound agony and utter despair.
Lucius, a man who had treated her with nothing but icy indifference for years, was now displaying a rare, attentive tenderness. He ordered the flight attendants to prepare soup and meticulously spoon-fed her himself. Once she finished, she immediately closed her eyes to sleep, completely shutting him out.
Madeline would never forget that Lucius was treating this exactly like her miscarriage—he had no intention of ever holding Liliana accountable.
She had lost half her life during that miscarriage, and now she had lost the other half. Yet the woman responsible had never faced a single consequence. The bitter injustice brought a fresh wave of tears to her eyes. How much more could she endure? She swore she would not remain trapped in this toxic nightmare any longer.
Once she was healed, she was going to file for a lightning-fast divorce.
The moment the private jet touched down, Lucius prepared to accompany Madeline directly to the facility where Dr. Dyson operated. Suddenly, his phone rang.
A bloodcurdling scream pierced through the speaker. It was Liliana's voice.
Grant's panicked voice followed. "Lucius! Lily was attacked! She's been beaten half to death! Her legs... her legs were brutally shattered!" Lucius was stunned by the news.
He asked urgently, tension radiating from his frame.
"What happened? Where was she attacked?"
Grant hurriedly explained that Liliana had flown in to visit him at the Prescott estate, planning to pack her things before heading off to study in London. Out of nowhere, she was ambushed. Her attackers wore brass knuckles, snapping her legs in half and beating her until she bled internally. She was currently hanging by a thread.
