Sheri was quick to pass judgment in her texts: "Is Madeline a psycho? She can't even raise her own kid, trips down the stairs, and then hires thugs to beat Lily half to death?"
Sheri fired off several more messages, each one a venomous curse aimed at Madeline.
"This is literal attempted murder! Can Lily's legs even be saved? Lucius, where the hell are you? I couldn't reach you, I've been terrified."
"If flights weren't so hard to book right now, I'd be by her side. Are you even a man? Do you have any idea how devastated Lily is that she can't find you?"
"This is completely unprovoked! I swear on my life Lily never taught Leo to do anything bad. Madeline is a vicious bitch for ordering a hit without even knowing the truth."
Lucius stared at the screen, completely paralyzed by indecision.
Liliana lacked Madeline's fierce resilience, and her visible injuries were undeniably far bloodier. Slowly, the scales in his mind began to tip.
More importantly, he firmly believed Liliana was innocent. Despite Silas's accusations, Lucius couldn't fathom that Liliana was the mastermind. The boy had resentfully asked Lucius if he would no longer be his father just prior to the prank.
Children were highly sensitive. The boy clearly knew he was being abandoned, and naturally, he wouldn't blame his biological mother. He would only direct his hatred at Madeline.
In Lucius's mind, there was absolutely no way Liliana was responsible for the fall.
Yet she was the one who had just suffered a savage, brutal revenge.
Lucius didn't buy for a second that this bloody assault was a random mugging. Liliana hadn't broken an arm or a rib—both of her legs were methodically shattered. The coincidence was too glaring.
Madeline's legs merely lacked sensation, which paled in comparison to the agonizing torture of Liliana's bones piercing through her own skin.
Lucius took a deep breath, his decision finalized.
