Grant suddenly looked up. "Lily's doctor just said the only person who can possibly save her legs is the top orthopedic and neurosurgeon, Dr. Dyson. If he doesn't operate on her immediately, there's no hope."
How could it be such a perfect coincidence?
The exact same surgeon?
But Lucius quickly realized it made logical sense. In the elite medical community, there was a universal consensus on who reigned supreme in handling impossibly complex trauma.
And Liliana's injuries were visibly horrific. With her bones completely severed, the surrounding nerves were undeniably shredded. Lucius's own prior research had confirmed that Dr. Dyson was practically the only surgeon globally qualified to perform such delicate nerve reconstruction.
But the harsh reality slammed into him—Madeline was waiting for that exact surgery.
Lucius felt a sudden tightness in his chest, making it hard to breathe.
He had explicitly sworn to secure Dr. Dyson for Madeline.
They were hours away from her consultation. While Madeline's paralysis was devastating, she wasn't currently battling gaping, infected wounds. To Lucius's skewed perception, Liliana was in far more critical need of the doctor's immediate attention.
Yet, he had made a promise. Madeline was already at the facility, so logic dictated that he let her undergo the procedure first, and then beg Dr. Dyson to take Liliana's case.
While he was paralyzed by indecision...
A harrowing, guttural sob erupted from Liliana's bed.
Lucius immediately rushed back into the room.
Liliana was weeping hysterically, pointing a trembling finger at the horrifying sight of her exposed bone. "Lucius, I'm never going to have legs again, am I? Sheri told me Madeline paid those men to do this to me... is it true?"
Lucius slowly, heavily nodded.
Aside from Madeline, he couldn't formulate a single alternative suspect.
