Betrayed by the Father Reborn in His Rival's Arms novel Chapter 130

Lucius suddenly broke the silence. "Maddy, Liliana's injuries are drastically worse than yours. Both of her legs have suffered catastrophic comminuted fractures, and the infection is severe. After those men beat her, they tossed her into a landfill. The doctors over there are warning that she might need an immediate amputation."

Madeline found the entire speech laughable. "Why are you telling me this? What does her karma have to do with me?"

Lucius pressed on. "It's true that if Liliana hadn't complained to Arthur, he wouldn't have forced Leo to be sent away. The boy even asked me a few times if he was losing his father. Maddy, I truly believe the boy acted on his own. It was a childish prank that went horribly wrong. He had no idea the consequences would be this severe, and I've already disciplined him harshly. You don't ever have to look at him or raise him again. But the point is, Liliana had absolutely no direct involvement in your fall."

Disciplined?

Madeline stared down at her entirely unresponsive legs. What good was "discipline"?

Would it magically make her stand up?

Madeline already knew Lucius would never hold Liliana accountable, but his sheer desperation to absolve his mistress was sickening.

A blind man could see that a child wouldn't orchestrate such a malicious act without adult manipulation. Yet Lucius claimed he couldn't see it?

Or was he just willfully blind?

Madeline narrowed her eyes, wondering where this elaborate setup was going.

Then Lucius delivered the killing blow. "Madeline, you took your revenge out on the wrong person."

Madeline's heart seized.

She jerked her head up, glaring fiercely into Lucius's eyes. "Are you accusing me of ordering a hit on your precious childhood sweetheart? So now you've come to punish me on her behalf?"
