Liliana was absolutely seething over the situation, but since Lucius had frozen her cards, she knew she had zero financial leverage.
Her father, Grant, had recently picked up a severe gambling addiction abroad and blew through his savings. If they wanted quick cash, she'd have to sell off her beloved designer bags at second-hand prices. Once they were gone, they were gone, and many were limited editions she couldn't bear to part with.
She didn't dare openly confront Lucius right now. If she pushed him away in a fit of rage, who would foot the astronomical medical bills?
Faced with her father's argument with Lucius, the best strategy Liliana could muster was to feign sleep. She kept her eyes squeezed shut, pretending to rest in her hospital bed to avoid the confrontation entirely.
But internally, she was violently cursing Madeline. She was convinced Madeline had used some kind of seductive witchcraft to manipulate Lucius, not only stopping him from taking the doctor but also making him question their lies.
As Lucius listened to Dr. Herbort, his expression darkened by the second.
The specialist informed him that Liliana's current condition was entirely unsuitable for immediate surgery. They needed to administer anti-inflammatories, clean the wounds, and manage the drainage first. Surgery could only proceed after the infection cleared up, otherwise, the risk of failure was disastrously high.
Furthermore, Dr. Herbort noted that this level of trauma was common among athletes, particularly those in extreme sports. He had seen far worse. As long as they followed his treatment protocol, there was a high probability the surgery would be successful.
Hearing this, Lucius was consumed by a blazing fury.
He realized Grant had played him. Grant had manipulated him into demanding Dr. Dyson for an "emergency" surgery that wasn't even viable yet, just to delay Madeline's critical operation.
And for such a ridiculous, selfish lie, Lucius had relentlessly tormented Madeline and nearly ruined her chance at recovery.
A crushing wave of shame overwhelmed him.
He immediately ordered his bodyguards to transfer Liliana to Dr. Herbort's private clinic. Once that was settled, he prepared to rush back to Madeline. Right now, Madeline needed him more than anyone.
