Betrayed by the Father Reborn in His Rival's Arms novel Chapter 16

Liliana got a minor stomachache, and Lucius stayed by her side all night. What about her?

Madeline shook her head.

Forget a stomachache. When Madeline had suffered a miscarriage, Lucius hadn't even bothered to look her way.

She used to trick herself into believing that Lucius was just naturally cold and emotionally stunted, that he simply didn't know how to care for another human being.

But now she knew the truth.

She should have realized it ages ago. Lucius knew exactly how to be tender and caring.

He just didn't care enough to waste it on her.

Madeline forced down a few more bites until she was moderately full. The cold, dry pastry felt like ash in her mouth, turning bitter as it slid down her throat.

Sitting right across from her, glued to Liliana's side, Leo suddenly pulled out a pearl bracelet. "Auntie Lily, I made this for you."

Madeline had been about to stand up, but her body froze.

She recognized that bracelet immediately. She knew exactly how many hours Leo had spent meticulously stringing it together.

The beads were natural pearls she had personally handpicked with him during a vacation abroad—a stunning gradient of white, golden, purple, and black.

When Leo had proudly announced he was making a special bracelet for the mommy he loved most, Madeline had naturally assumed it was for her.

She had been so overjoyed that she had bought him a customized children's jewelry-making kit, eagerly counting down the days until he finally gave it to her.

Now, the masterpiece was finally finished.

And he was handing it to Liliana, right in front of her face.
