Betrayed by the Father Reborn in His Rival's Arms novel Chapter 28

The phone rang endlessly before the call finally connected.

"Lucius, I'm in danger!" Madeline blurted out instantly. "Please call the police! My address is—"

Before she could finish, a sharp, mocking laugh echoed through the speaker.

It was Liliana's voice.

Madeline's grip on the phone tightened until her knuckles turned white.

"Why are you still calling Lucius?" Liliana sneered. "Do you have absolutely no shame?"

A suffocating pain gripped Madeline's chest.

She knew they were getting a divorce, but she had taken care of Lucius flawlessly for five years. Now, in a moment of pure desperation, she just needed him to make a single emergency call for her.

Not only did he refuse to pick up, but he had handed the phone to his mistress to humiliate her.

Drawing a ragged breath, tears spilled down Madeline's cheeks. "Ms. Lansbury, please call the police. I am in real danger."

"Why don't you call them yourself?" Liliana drawled in a bored, amused tone. "If you have time to harass us, you clearly aren't in danger. You're so pathetic. You're just faking it to trick Lucius into rushing over to save you, aren't you? Give it up."

A cruel giggle sounded over the line.

"He doesn't love you. If you have any dignity left, stop calling us."

Before Madeline could say another word, Liliana hung up.

Madeline stared at the black screen, her vision completely blurred by tears. In her most desperate hour, Lucius had allowed the other woman to taunt and abandon her to her fate, twisting a knife brutally into her back.

Trembling, she scrambled under the bed just as the intruder kicked the front door open.

From the heavy footsteps, it was clear the man wasn't searching the living room for valuables. He was heading straight for her bedroom.

"Come on out, beautiful. Come with me, and I promise you'll have a good time."

Listening to the disgusting threats, Madeline's heart hammered in her throat.

Just as she braced for the worst, a massive crash shook the apartment, followed by a chorus of agonizing screams. Madeline froze in shock. Could it be...?

When she finally gathered the courage to crack the door open, she saw several towering, muscular men in tailored black suits mercilessly beating the intruder.

They didn't stop until the man was a twitching mess on the floor.
