She quickly stepped further away.

When Madeline backed up...

The lead bodyguard's voice cut through the room like ice. "Mr. Prescott said to castrate him."

The intruder's face contorted in sheer terror. Before he could scream another plea for mercy, a sickening strike delivered an agonizing blow to his lower half. He let out a bloodcurdling shriek and instantly passed out from the pain.

Without missing a beat, two men dragged his unconscious body out of the apartment while another efficiently mopped up the pool of blood on the hardwood floor.

Madeline stared in horror. "He lost so much blood, and... he's not going to die, is he?"

"Don't worry," the bodyguard replied calmly. "We are professionals. We know exactly where to draw the line. Please get some rest, Ms. Monroe. Mr. Prescott asked me to tell you that you have absolutely nothing to fear."

With that, the men filed out, closing the repaired door behind them.

Her legs finally giving out, Madeline collapsed onto the sofa.

Her grandmother's dying words suddenly echoed in her mind.

Margaret had tried to tell her there was a massive secret regarding her parentage.
