Met with his icy demand, the doctors stood in terrified silence.
The sheer fury radiating from Alaric made it horrifyingly clear that whoever raised their hand was about to suffer severe consequences.
Finally, Dr. Maxwell cracked and stepped forward.
"That little nurse was completely derelict in her duties," he stammered defensively. "She was supposed to be monitoring the young master, but she ran off to fool around. She was so careless she administered the wrong medication and nearly killed him. I was so furious that I slapped her."
Director Hamilton wiped the cold sweat pooling on his forehead.
Ivy was under the CEO's personal protection.
He hadn't even dared to give her a heavy workload, and now this idiot head of cardiology had slapped her?
He was practically digging his own grave.
Alaric's eyes darkened to a lethal shade of black.
He stared at the doctor, his expression practically glacial.
"I am giving you two choices. Option one: You apologize to her, pay a generous settlement for her medical and emotional distress, and resign from this hospital immediately to find a new job."
"Option two: You go to prison for aggravated assault."
He might not want their marriage made public.
But that didn't mean he was going to let anyone lay a finger on his wife.
If he didn't demand justice for her, their marriage certificate wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
"What?" Dr. Maxwell gasped, looking as though he had been struck by lightning.
"I just gave her a slap! She made a catastrophic error. Did she not deserve to be disciplined? I—"
"If you say one more word of defense," Alaric cut in, his voice deadly soft, "you will only be left with option two."
Standing up, having completely run out of patience for the man's excuses, Alaric strode out of the office.
As Dr. Maxwell opened his mouth to protest again, Director Hamilton grabbed his arm and hissed:
"Just accept it! You know how ruthless he can be. The fact that he isn't blacklisting you from the medical community entirely is a damn miracle."
"Do you really want to end up behind bars for assault?"
Dr. Maxwell was reeling.
She answered her buzzing phone, completely dumbfounded as the notoriously arrogant Dr. Maxwell delivered a groveling apology and promptly wired a $100,000 settlement to her account.
She was in shock.
Everyone at the hospital knew the man threw his weight around constantly, using his medical prowess as a shield to harass the younger nurses.
And he was notoriously cheap, too.
So why was he suddenly bowing to her and throwing a hundred grand her way?
It made no sense.
But an apology was an apology, and money was money. She accepted both without a shred of guilt.
The cash was non-negotiable.
Knowing she had lost a high-paying job but gained a massive payout made the sting of getting fired completely vanish.
Combined with the money she had already scraped together, this new nest egg would cover her sister's chemotherapy for a good long while.
By the time Alaric walked through the front doors of the Starlight Estate, Ivy had just stepped away to the restroom.
