He had seen every type of woman out there.
How could he possibly fall for this little girl?
That night, Ivy slept incredibly soundly.
Alaric, however, tossed and turned in pure agony, simultaneously enjoying the unprecedented sensation Ivy brought him.
While ruthlessly denying all of her redeeming qualities.
In the end, he didn't sleep a wink, slipping out of bed the moment dawn broke.
He didn't even grab breakfast, heading straight to the office to catch up on sleep.
Alaric was convinced that if this kept up, he was going to drop dead from exhaustion.
So he made a decision to go on a business trip for a few days to clear his head, promising to return only when Ivy's face wasn't constantly invading his thoughts.
Ivy couldn't return to Metropolitan General for work.
After dropping Stella off at St. Jude's Preschool, she had no choice but to go keep her sister company.
Gemma was quite perceptive.
Leaning weakly against her pillows, she asked:
"Ivy, why are you so free lately? Don't you have to work during the week?"
Hearing this, Ivy felt a pang of guilt and avoided Gemma's gaze.
If her sister found out she had lost her job, she would definitely worry.
She didn't know how long it would be before she could return to the hospital.
If she couldn't go back, she would have to figure out a way to find another job.
"Ivy, did you get into a fight with your husband?"
When her first question went unanswered, Gemma pressed further.
Ivy forced a smile, handing her a freshly peeled piece of fruit.
"No way, Alaric and I are doing great."
"Then why haven't you brought him around for us to meet?"
Gemma continued, "Hazel came to see you last time, right? She said she hadn't met him either, and she even had to stay in a hotel. So he doesn't actually want you helping us out, does he?"
She wasn't stupid; she understood exactly what her sister was dealing with.
