Hearing her say she missed him sent a soft ripple straight through Alaric's heart.
That strange thrill almost sent him spiraling back into his own delusions.
Thankfully, he snapped back to reality, reminding himself that Ivy had definitely just switched up her strategy.
She was trying to suck up to him, laying the groundwork to wring more benefits out of him in the future.
So he had to stay sharp and refuse to fall for her charms.
After waiting in silence for an answer that never came, Ivy disappointedly hung up the phone.
Alaric had just opened his mouth to reply when the line went dead, leaving the words caught in his throat.
His mind immediately drifted back to every little moment he had shared with her.
He was going crazy.
He absolutely had to be losing his mind.
Why did he keep obsessing over that woman?
He quickly ordered his assistant to pack his bags; he needed to fly out of state immediately for his trip.
If he put some distance between them, he wouldn't feel this desperate urge to rush home and see her.
If he stayed away, his heart wouldn't feel so tortured.
As Ivy sat eating dinner with Stella, her mind was elsewhere.
The little girl tilted her head, watching her with innocent curiosity.
"Mommy, do you not have an appetite because Daddy isn't here?"
Ivy snapped back to reality and smiled, not bothering to hide it.
"That might be it. Even though your dad can be a little grumpy sometimes, him suddenly not sitting across from me makes it feel like something is missing."
She was telling the truth.
She had only slept in that man's arms for two nights.
How had she already started craving his scent?
Why did she feel like she was in a relationship, but currently being neglected, caught in an agonizing state of insecurity?
Ivy really despised feeling this way.
She needed to hurry up and get her driver's license to distract herself.
After putting Stella to bed that night, Ivy stayed by her side to study for her test.
