Ivy patiently explained everything to her sister.
"It's not what the internet is saying. I'm completely innocent. I didn't cheat. If you want the full story, ask Hazel. She knows exactly what happened."
It seemed Alaric was right to tell her to stay indoors.
If even Gemma, isolated in her hospital room, knew about it, the rumors had spread far and wide.
"Are you okay right now? Ivy, I saw everyone cursing you online. Can you just hide and ignore them? People can be so extreme, I'm scared someone might hurt you."
Gemma was deeply concerned about her sister's safety and urged her to be careful.
Ivy smiled warmly. "I'm fine. I'm safe here at my husband's place."
"Does your husband know? Is he going to divorce you because he thinks it's true?"
Gemma still didn't know what kind of man her brother-in-law really was.
But any man who saw his wife trending online for allegedly getting a hotel room with another guy would struggle to tolerate it.
She was terrified that he might hit Ivy.
She was terrified that something awful might happen to her.
Ivy thought about how Alaric hadn't brought up divorce, hadn't kicked her out, and had even told her to stay safely inside.
Deep down, she felt incredibly grateful.
She reassured her sister, "He knows. He said he's going to investigate it, and he seems to believe I'm innocent."
"No matter what, please protect yourself. If he tries to hit you, you have to call the police, okay?"
In Gemma's mind, her brother-in-law was over a decade older than Ivy and divorced with a child.
She imagined him as an overweight, balding middle-aged man who drank too much and had domestic violence tendencies.
Why else would he be divorced?
With a scandal like this, there was no way a guy like that would let it slide.
She couldn't shake her anxiety.
Ivy couldn't help but laugh softly.
