Mrs. Gable spotted her and smiled teasingly.
"Good morning, ma'am. Sleep well?"
Mortified, Ivy kept her head down and silently took a seat in the dining room.
Mrs. Gable brought over a freshly prepared breakfast and continued.
"Mr. Foster personally dropped Stella off at preschool this morning. He explicitly told me not to wake you so you could sleep in. But from the looks of it, you're exhausted. Why don't you eat a little something and head back to bed?"
Ivy looked up. "No, thank you. I actually need to head out soon."
"Alright then. It's wonderful seeing you two getting along so well lately. Keep it up. As long as you keep him happy, your life here will only get better."
Mrs. Gable offered a gentle reminder.
Ivy focused on her food, chewing silently.
She wondered if it was just her imagination.
But it really felt like Alaric might actually care about her.
Why else would he kiss her with such desperation last night?
He had even carried her to the shower afterward.
And the hushed words he whispered against her skin were softer than she had ever heard from him.
Just thinking about it made her cheeks flush crimson, a warm flutter blooming in her chest.
Plus, for the first time, she hadn't needed to sneak emergency contraception today.
After finishing her meal, Ivy pulled out her phone to text Alaric.
[I'm taking an extra day before heading back to work. I'm going to visit my sister today.]
He texted back almost instantly, though it was just a single word: [Okay.]
Ivy smiled, more than satisfied.
At least he wasn't leaving her on read anymore.
She made her way to Metropolitan General.
Stepping into Gemma's room, she immediately spotted Hazel sitting by the bed.
Her expression instantly darkened, and she marched over with a deep scowl.
