Eventually, Ivy caved and forgave her sisters.
She took them out for a nice lunch that afternoon, dropped Hazel off at the train station, and then escorted Gemma back to the ward.
Seeing it was getting late, she realized it was time to pick up Stella.
Just as Ivy walked out of the inpatient building, she practically collided with Dr. Elena Sinclair, who was fully dressed in her white coat.
Elena looked visibly taken aback.
"Ivy? What are you doing here?"
Ivy was equally surprised to discover Elena worked at this exact hospital.
Glancing at her ID badge, she noticed Elena was an attending in the hematology department.
That was the exact department handling her sister's case.
Realizing how small the world was, Ivy answered honestly.
"My sister is sick. I'm here visiting her."
"Oh? Your sister? You mean the seventeen-year-old high school student named Gemma?"
Ivy blinked in shock. "How did you know?"
Elena offered a smooth smile.
"She's a patient of my junior colleague. He mentioned her case, and when I heard the last name, I wondered if there was a connection. I didn't expect it to actually be your sister."
Ivy didn't deny it.
Elena slipped her hands into her coat pockets and stepped closer.
"Since we ran into each other, and we're friends, you really should have told me your family was dealing with an illness. I could have pulled some strings for you."
"Come on, let's grab a coffee. I'll look into her file later and make sure she gets VIP treatment."
Ivy politely stepped back. "I actually have to go pick up Stella from preschool right now. Let's do a raincheck. Next time, it's my treat."
She knew better than to accept favors from someone with an ulterior motive.
Especially a woman who was actively trying to sink her claws into Alaric.
The less they interacted, the better.
Elena's smile stiffened slightly as she let her go.
