Ivy stared at the text from the old jerk, along with the $100,000 transfer.
Even though it stung, making her feel thoroughly degraded.
She reasoned with herself: what was dignity compared to cold, hard cash?
They had already slept together anyway.
With Elena moving into the estate soon, making a little extra money before the inevitable divorce was nothing to be ashamed of.
Ivy didn't hesitate to accept the $100,000. Wearing her pajamas, she left the nanny's quarters, walked to the master bedroom, and gently pushed the door open.
Mr. Foster was leaning against the headboard, genuinely looking as if he were waiting for her to warm his bed.
Ivy held her breath, shoving down whatever pride she had left. Fighting to mask the sharp pain radiating from her chest, she walked over and slipped into the bed.
$100,000 for one night.
She was making a massive profit.
Taking the initiative wouldn't hurt.
She shifted onto her knees beside him, her heart hammering in her chest, her face burning hot.
She leaned in, intending to kiss him.
But Alaric raised a hand, catching her chin to stop her. His dark eyes were bottomless, swirling with an unreadable intensity.
"I'm old and ugly?"
His grip made her lips pucker slightly, giving her an unintentionally adorable look.
Her eyes darted around nervously. She stayed perfectly still on her knees, realizing he had definitely heard everything.
Was he going to hit her?
She was actually a little scared.
"Ivy, answer me. Exactly how old and ugly am I?"
Alaric's expression was frighteningly dark, the fury in his eyes unmistakable.
Ivy forced herself out of his grip. Rubbing her slightly aching jaw, she snapped back defensively.
"I only said that because I was mad."
He was the one who was bringing another woman home to sleep in the master bedroom.
She'd been miserable all day because of it.
Ivy shifted to sit beside him, blinking rapidly as if she'd caught dust in her eye.
Alaric stared at her.
Under the dim, warm light of the room, her skin looked luminous, practically glowing.
