The gathering came to an end.

Mason was heavily intoxicated. The group helped him out the door, but just as he was about to get into his car, Maisie suddenly spoke up.

"Mason, you go home first. Alaric rarely visits, so I'm going to keep him company for a bit."

Mason narrowed his eyes at her. "He's a grown man. Why does he need you to keep him company?"

"I just missed him, okay? I want to drop him off at his hotel. Just leave it alone."

Without waiting for an argument, Maisie hopped right into the passenger seat of Gideon's car.

Gideon hadn't been drinking, so he was the designated driver to get Alaric back to the hotel.

Alaric got in the back.

The three of them ignored Mason's complaints and simply drove off.

In the end, Mason's assistant had to drive him home.

Inside Gideon's car, Maisie turned around to face Alaric in the backseat.

"Alaric, how long are you planning to stay this time? Are you looking to date? I can introduce you to someone."

Alaric's mind instantly drifted back to Ivy.

Ivy was around the same age as this young heiress, though the poor girl was severely malnourished and incredibly frail.

If she were fed and pampered properly, she would probably bloom into just as radiant a flower as the Miller family's little princess.

"No need."

Alaric flatly rejected her offer.

Maisie wasn't easily deterred and kept pushing.

"Well, then you should stay a few extra days. Mason is all bark and no bite. He's actually flown to Capital City several times, but he's too proud to reach out to you. Don't hold it against him."

Alaric maintained his cool demeanor. "I don't hold anything against him."

"Then, Alaric, why aren't you guys looking for someone to marry? You guys are getting older. You have no idea how crazy my parents are driving Mason these days."

"Especially after they found out he's into guys. It practically gave them heart attacks."

Maisie twisted around in her seat again, staring at Alaric with burning curiosity.

"Alaric, are you secretly gay too?"
