That night, Ivy slept in the downstairs nanny's room.

Alaric remained alone in the master suite. Ever since Elena had drugged and assaulted him, he hadn't slept a wink for three consecutive nights.

He was plagued by frustration and intense rage.

"Why did you walk away that night?"

She stood frozen, her voice hoarse. "Was I supposed to stay and watch your little performance?"
