For the past few days, Alaric essentially stayed at the apartment with Ivy and Stella, never returning to The Starlight Estate.
At first, Elena had relentlessly called him with threats, but he used work as an excuse to brush her off and completely ignored her.
After a few days, with Mason keeping her occupied, Elena completely stopped trying to contact Alaric.
A full week later.
Alaric finally returned to The Starlight Estate.
The moment he walked through the door, he spotted Elena bustling around the kitchen in an apron.
She looked as though she truly believed she owned the place.
Suppressing his intense disgust, Alaric walked over and deliberately asked, "Why are you the one cooking?"
Hearing his voice, Elena spun around.
Seeing Alaric standing there, a flash of genuine shock crossed her face.
She looked incredibly guilty, her eyes darting away as she stammered for a moment before replying,
"You... weren't you on a business trip? I figured since there wasn't a maid around and your friend was staying here, I'd help host him for you."
Alaric glanced around the kitchen and sneered.
"How domestic of you. Carry on."
He didn't waste another second on her, turning on his heel and heading straight upstairs.
Watching his retreating back, Elena let out a heavy breath of relief.
She had no idea why Alaric was suddenly back.
But she felt undeniably guilty.
It was as if she was terrified Alaric would look into her eyes and instantly uncover the treacherous thoughts brewing in her heart, doubting her loyalty.
Even Elena hadn't expected it. After waiting at The Starlight Estate for days without a glimpse of Alaric, she had started developing feelings for his friend.
The man from Northport had wealth, status, and looks that completely rivaled Alaric's. He was even more charming, gentlemanly, and effortlessly conversational.
Knowing that Mason was actively pursuing her, she couldn't stop her heart from wavering.
Especially since Alaric's absolute coldness over the last five years offered her zero hope. If she hadn't resorted to extreme blackmail, she wouldn't even have the chance to stay at The Starlight Estate right now.
Yet, even though she was here, Alaric still found endless excuses to avoid coming home.
