Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 39

For the rest of the evening, Ivy swallowed every ounce of her suffering.

It wasn't until Stella finally exhausted herself to sleep and Alaric carried her out that Ivy's agonizing groans finally slipped through her lips.

The pain was absolutely unbearable.

Her entire body throbbed with white-hot agony.

It literally felt as though every single bone in her body was on the verge of splintering into dust.

As a result, she suffered through a torturous, sleepless night, unable to catch a single moment of peace.

Early the next morning, as Alaric arrived with another carefully curated breakfast, he froze at the door, catching the faint, wretched sound of Ivy quietly sobbing inside.

The private nurse standing beside the bed looked at her with immense pity and offered gently.

"Ms. Sawyer, why don't I go speak to the doctor and see if we can administer another dose of painkillers?"

Ivy shook her head through her tears.

"Didn't the doctor say the painkillers have harsh side effects that could slow down my bones healing? It's fine... I can endure it."

Nurse: "But you're literally crying from the pain."

Ivy: "I just have a low tolerance for tears, I cry easily. I can't rely on painkillers; I need to heal as fast as possible so I can get back to Stella."

Lingering outside the door, the guilt twisting inside Alaric's gut intensified into a sickening knot.

Stripped of the courage to walk inside and face her, he abruptly turned on his heel, dumped the expensive breakfast at the nurses' station, and marched directly to the hospital director's office.

Later that afternoon, a team of specialists arrived to carefully change Ivy's dressings and adjust her casts.

Following the adjustment, the agonizing pressure finally began to recede.

Over the next several days, a dedicated team of elite physicians monitored Ivy around the clock, continuously refining her treatment protocol.

They utilized the most cutting-edge, astronomically expensive medications available, refusing to cut a single corner in her recovery.

A week later, Ivy finally showed signs of genuine improvement.

The agonizing pain that had reduced her to tears had faded to a dull ache.

She was even managing to keep down a fair amount of solid food.

Having been separated from Ivy for an entire week, Stella completely lost her appetite, grew devastatingly depressed, and woke up crying every single night.

Left with absolutely zero alternatives, Alaric had to bring her back to the hospital.

The moment they stepped into the VIP suite, Stella threw herself toward Ivy's bed, her massive, tear-filled eyes brimming with misery.

He stalked over to the leather sofa and sat down, his strikingly handsome face devoid of any readable expression. "Stella has been completely miserable without you. You genuinely need to focus on recovering quickly, or she'll have absolutely no one to keep her company."

He truly meant to offer her a shred of comfort.

Yet somehow, the second the words left his mouth, they morphed into a cold demand.

The moment he finished speaking, even Alaric realized how incredibly heartless he sounded.

Hearing his tone, Ivy's heart sank with terrifying dread.

She was absolutely terrified that if she dragged this out any longer, Mr. Foster would lose his patience, cut off her medical funding, completely sever their marriage contract, and instantly terminate her $20,000 allowance.

Staring down at the child by her bed, Ivy purposefully raised her voice just loud enough to ensure Alaric caught every word.

"Stella, I need you to be an absolute angel for Daddy these next few days. The second I'm all healed, I will spend every waking moment with you, and I will never, ever leave you."

"Then we have to pinky swear! Mommy has to promise to keep her word and never ever leave me!"

The tiny girl thrust out her little pinky finger, her face the picture of absolute, innocent seriousness.

Feeling completely helpless to resist, Ivy gently hooked her own finger around the child's.

The little girl's face instantly lit up with a brilliant smile as she chanted in her impossibly sweet voice:
