It was obvious Ivy was putting her heart and soul into this, which was exactly why Stella was so fiercely attached to her. However, Alaric couldn't shake the grim realization that the longer this went on, the deeper their bond would grow, making it nearly impossible to rip them apart when the time finally came.
After they finished eating, Alaric stood up from the table. "Meet me at the office tomorrow afternoon. We'll head to the preschool together."
Ivy nodded obediently.
But right before he walked out of the room, she blurted out, "Um, where exactly is your office?"
Alaric stopped dead in his tracks.
She didn't know where his company was? There was only one Foster Group in the entire city. Hadn't she meticulously researched his identity before using his daughter as leverage to secure this marriage? He truly couldn't fathom why she was still playing this infuriating, innocent act when he already saw right through her gold-digging scheme.
"Look it up," Alaric snapped impatiently, turning on his heel and striding away.
Ivy watched him leave, her lips twisting into a frustrated pout.
How was she supposed to look it up? Was his company really that famous? She only knew that Metropolitan General was renowned for catering to the ultra-wealthy elite of the city.
Terrified of getting the address wrong and infuriating her temperamental husband, Ivy went online that night to do a quick search. What she found nearly gave her a heart attack. The Foster Group wasn't just a business; it was a sprawling, multinational conglomerate dominating the city's central business district, with a market valuation soaring into the hundreds of billions of dollars.
The following afternoon. Ivy arrived promptly outside Foster Towers.
Tilting her head back, she stared up at the sheer, glittering glass facade that seemed to pierce the clouds. She couldn't believe it—this iconic, architectural masterpiece in the heart of the city belonged entirely to her husband's family.
"Ivy, I did it. I finally saved up the hundreds of thousands of dollars you asked for! Let's just move back to our hometown and start over, please?"
He had genuinely believed that dating a wealthy heiress was his golden ticket to conquering the big city. Instead, he had been unceremoniously fired from Foster Group before his probation period even ended. Summer had completely lost her mind, subjecting him to endless, psychotic tantrums, only to shove wads of cash in his face afterward to shut him up.
Now that he had squeezed enough money out of Summer, he was utterly convinced that if he could just track Ivy down, he could sweep her away to the countryside, marry her, and live a perfectly normal, quiet life. And now, the universe had miraculously placed her right in front of him.
Ivy stared coldly at the man standing before her. She wouldn't deny that she used to be head over heels in love with him. She had genuinely dreamed of walking down the aisle and becoming his wife. But the horrifying way he had treated her when she needed him most had completely destroyed every shred of affection she had left. Jerking her arm out of his grasp, her face turned to stone.
"It's too late, Patrick. Go back to Summer. You and I were permanently done the exact second you dumped me."
