Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1193

Lillian's lips curled into a cold smirk. Sabrina hadn't taken her eyes off Eleanor for a single second. The audacity of this woman was astounding. She was one of the monsters who destroyed Eleanor's life, yet she dared to stare at her so openly.

Vicious shrew.

Eleanor tilted her head, fragments of distant, hazy memories flashing through her mind. The faces felt familiar, but she couldn't place them. She just stared at Sabrina and Martin, blinking slowly.

When Sabrina saw that slow, almost condescending blink, panic flared in her chest. She immediately clung to Martin's arm for support.

Martin knew Lillian was watching their every move. He enjoyed Sabrina's affection in private, but flaunting it in front of Lillian and his ex-wife was a guaranteed death wish. If Lillian decided to make things difficult for him, she absolutely would.

Desperate to avoid conflict, Martin forcefully peeled Sabrina's fingers off his arm. "Sabrina, not now. Keep it together."

Sabrina leaned in, her voice trembling. "Don't you think Eleanor looks... different?"

Back when Eleanor was locked in St. Jude’s Psychiatric Center, Sabrina had volunteered to visit her every Monday on behalf of the family. She had purposely kept Martin and his sons away, claiming they were too busy with work and that she was happy to shoulder the burden. In reality, she didn't want them seeing Eleanor's deteriorating state and feeling guilty. At that time, the Mercer father and sons trusted her completely, though some felt it was inappropriate.

Lillian watched him with pure disgust. Martin had willingly married Eleanor. They had built a life together and raised three children. If Sabrina hadn't slithered into the picture, they would have grown old together in peace. It proved he had once loved her. But if he had loved her, how could he refuse to even look at her now? He was the one who betrayed her; she had never wronged him. His utter cowardice made Lillian sick to her stomach.

Lillian remained seated. To her, Martin wasn't a father or an elder. He was nothing.

Martin, however, still clung to his patriarchal ego. He expected his daughter to rise and greet him. Seeing her casually lounging in her chair made his blood boil.

Before he could snap at her, Leonard's voice cut through the tension. "Are you going to start groveling right away?"
