Martin looked deeply embarrassed, entirely unsure of what to say.
Beatrice just stared at him, making it clear that silence wasn't an option.
He finally offered a placating response. "I'll remember your advice, Beatrice. When you have the time, please do go visit Lillian for me. That child listens to you."
At the mention of Lillian, Beatrice's expression softened slightly, and she stopped glaring at Sabrina.
"Don't worry," she agreed. "I'll definitely make time to visit Lillian. You have no idea how much I adore that girl."
Beatrice said no more. After saying her goodbyes, she left, supported on either side by her two grandsons.
Sabrina was seething. Once they were gone, she shot Martin a vicious glare before turning on her heel and storming upstairs to find Bella.
She ordered the kitchen to prepare some crab roe noodles and bring them up.
Then, she stayed in the room, keeping Bella company, refusing to step back outside.
"That old hag actually had the nerve to lecture me. She said I was bad luck, that I brought misfortune to the Mercer family.
Going on about how great the family used to be—what is in her head?
Why are things bad for the Mercer family now? Isn't it because of Lillian and all the negative PR she caused?
If it weren't for Lillian, would the family be in this state?
And in the end, this outsider blames it all on me. It's absolutely sickening."
Bella spoke up. "I was watching from the window earlier and heard everything. The relationship between the Winthrops and the Mercers is unusually deep, and that old woman seems to really like Lillian."
"Tell me about it," Sabrina scoffed. "So what if she likes her? Her two grandsons... sigh... wait, those two grandsons must have grown up with Lillian, right?
Since our families used to be so close, Lillian must have a great relationship with those two guys."
