Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 1383

She said it right in front of Sabrina Ward. Sabrina could only force a smile and offer a fake excuse. "Bella has been exhausted lately. The pressure at work is immense, and she has so many orders to rush. Please forgive her, Beatrice."

Beatrice gave her a cold glance before turning her praise to Brandon and the others. "Our own children are truly the polite ones. They have excellent manners. It's not something outsiders can ever compare to."

Brandon seized the opportunity to serve Beatrice a dish. "Beatrice, this one is delicious. Have some more."

Beatrice smiled brightly. "Ah, how thoughtful."

From start to finish, Sabrina didn't show a hint of joy on her face. It was painfully obvious how miserable she was.

That old woman of the Mercer family was practically a vegetable now, unable to lecture her anymore. Yet, out of nowhere, this outsider with a snobby attitude had marched into her home to gossip and pick apart her every flaw.

Did she even realize she was an outsider with no right to say such things?

Beatrice certainly didn't think she lacked the right. After all, their two families used to be so close they were practically one. If one had trouble, the other offered full support.

Sabrina couldn't comprehend this, nor could she understand why Beatrice dared to speak to her in such a tone.

After dinner, it was about time for Beatrice to leave, and Sabrina was eager to see her out.

Her daughter was still upstairs, hungry. She was waiting for these people to leave so she could go to the kitchen and prepare some food to bring up to Bella.

But in her haste, she let her eagerness show, and Beatrice caught it instantly.

"What, rushing me out the door right after dinner? Are you afraid that if I stay longer, I'll keep scolding you? Or are you worried I'll tell Martin to see your true colors and kick you out sooner rather than later?"

Sabrina's forced smile began to crack.

"You must be joking. Of course I wouldn't rush you out. And I don't have any 'true colors.' Martin and I have been deeply committed to each other for years.

I don't know what I did to make you misunderstand me, but if I've done anything wrong, I apologize. I'm sorry."
