Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 156

Chapter 156

Winter’s eyes widened as she stared at Gavin.

This was obviously his way of making her go to Chris herself.

She nodded. “Fine. I’ll just replace it.”

Even though getting a new one would take about a week, and she needed her press badge for Monday’s

interview.

Still, she worked for the station’s news department. If it came down to it, the station could issue a letter to get her through it for now.

But she was still furious. She looked up at Gavin and snapped, “I should’ve given your number to every girl in this hospital. They’d drive you insane.”

Chris stepped out of the room, doctors and nurses following behind him.

The moment he reached the doorway, he saw Winter standing there with her head tipped up, her face flushed with anger as she chewed Gavin out.

Behind his glasses, his dark eyes sharpened slightly.

Feeling the cold stare from behind him, Gavin instinctively took a step aside.

He turned slightly. “Mr. Xander’s out. You can ask him for your press badge.”

“If he wants it that badly, he can keep it,” Winter said as she headed for the elevator without looking at Chris. “Call it a divorce present.”

She was already walking away, but the last sentence still reached Chris clearly.

The elevator doors opened. Winter stepped in and reached back to press the button.

Then her fingertips brushed something cool, and she froze.

Chris stepped into the elevator, one finger still on the Door Open button.

She jerked her hand back and shoved at him, trying to push past him and get out. There was no way she was riding down with him.

But Chris stood there like a wall. No matter how hard she pushed, he didn’t move. All she could do was

watch the doors slide shut.

Chris’s gaze flicked over the small cut on her jaw.

Winter quickly hit the button for the lobby and backed into the corner.

What she forgot was that the corner was the worst place to get trapped.

Both times, she had been with him.

One was a freak incident most people would never run into. The other was the kind of thing a person might never experience in their entire life.

And yet somehow, she had managed to run into both within two days.

“What kind of look is that?”

His low voice came from above her.

Winter clenched her fists and said nothing.

Chris lowered his eyes to her. Once he was sure the elevator had stopped shaking, he dropped the hand braced against the wall.

But he didn’t let go of the hand behind her head. Keeping her close, he guided her toward the doors, pressed every button from the twenty-third floor down, then pulled out his phone and called Gavin.

“The elevator’s malfunctioning. We’re stuck on twenty-three.”

After hanging up, he looked down at her again as she still tried to pull away and said evenly, “The elevator could drop again at any second. From the twenty-third floor, you’d be flattened.”
