“Winnie!”

Zac’s heart lurched into his throat as he took off toward the elevator at the end of the hall.

Eugene’s expression changed at once. “Stop him. And don’t let anyone notice.”

Especially not Chris, who was still in the ballroom on the third floor.

His assistant lowered his voice. “Chairman Davis, the event is about to begin. If you don’t show up, people are going to start getting suspicious.”

“Let’s go to the third floor first.”

The moment Eugene stepped into the ballroom on the third floor, he glanced toward Chris, who stood not far away with that same cold, distant air about him. Eugene then looked away as if nothing had happened.

Not long after, one of the bodyguards came over and said quietly, “Chairman Davis, Mr. Davis took a speedboat and went after them.”

Eugene’s face stayed calm, but his hand at his side clenched into a fist.

That idiot son of his had lost his mind over that woman.

But he couldn’t send more people after him now. If too many speedboats and yachts suddenly appeared out on the water, it would attract attention. More importantly, Chris would notice.

They only needed a little more time.

Once Winter was taken far enough out into open water, it would be too late.

Eugene spoke in a low voice. “Leave him alone.”

The wind over the water sliced across Zac’s face like a blade.

By the time he got out there, too much time had already passed. The yacht carrying Winter was nowhere in sight.

He shoved the speedboat to its limit. The headlights cut through the mist, and freezing seawater sprayed up from both sides, drenching his clothes and face.

He was soaked through and so cold he could barely feel his body anymore. His hands were red and stiff from the freezing wind, but they stayed locked on the wheel.

Then, at last, in the vast dark stretch of ocean, he spotted the tail end of a yacht.

Water dripped from his lashes as his eyes lit up.

On his own, he probably couldn’t get Winter back.

At this point, he no longer cared whether Chris would go after the Davis family in retaliation. If something happened to Winter, none of it would matter anyway.

He had to let Chris know

He pulled out his phone and found Chris’s number, but the signal out on the water was too unstable. The call wouldn’t go through.

Then suddenly, the cruise ship far behind him let out a string of whistles, and fireworks burst across the

night sky.

The banquet had only just started.

About ten seconds later, they burst again.

Three more shots.

Then they stopped abruptly.

Zion sagged against the window, drained of strength. Then he saw that Chris had arrived, and Gavin was
