He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73

And then-

BANG.

The sound cracked through the air. Loud, sharp, and violent for which something behind us shattered.

I flinched so hard my entire body reacted at once, my breath catching in my throat as I scrambled further inside the shop I had

fallen into.

We had be sniped.

Oh my God.

Oh my Goodness.

Oh my f-

I turned just in time to see DeLuca already behind a pillar. Calm and accessing like this was routine. Then he moved.

Not away. Not into safety or to hide with me.

This guy moved forward, away from the pillar into the open.

“Wait-” I whispered, but no sound really came out.

A gun was in his hand now. I didn’t even see when it appeared. And he raised it as he paced towards the direction we had been running away from; the direction we should be running from!

And then-

BANG.

BANG.

BANG.

He shot fast; precise, with no hesitation and obvious panic. Just execution, one after the other.

Three shots.

Four, then silence… suddenly. The kind of silence that doesn’t feel peaceful.

Just empty

Around me, people had started screaming and running, chaos breaking loose in every direction. But DeLuca?

He was still, standing there. Gun lowered slightly, looking ahead like he was waiting for something.

I couldn’t see what he was seeing. I couldn’t see anything past him.

Just him and the space where something had ended. But after a moment, he turned, looked directly at me. Then…

“Come.”

Him saying come, meant that the problem had either been dealt with or had left. But I didn’t move.

Because something was different now, not the situation.

Him.

I had known he was dangerous so this wasn’t new. But knowing something and seeing it- very different experiences.

I ruminated on that for a moment and I swallowed. Then I got up and stepped forward.

Slowly.

Carefully.

Like the ground might betray me if I moved too fast or another bullet my hear my footsteps and find its way to me.

When I reached him, my voice came out smaller than I intended.

“Is it… over?”

He didn’t answer. He just turned and started walking. I followed instantly.

Because what else was I supposed to do?
